Hi guys, this is my first post however I have poked around 24 for years and gained so Much helpful information I assumed someone here could help me out, I am itching for a 6.5x284 Norma, problem is I am left handed and the only rifle I can find a factory rifle left handed in 6.5 Norma without too much money is a mrc1999 American standard rifle, it’s a good looking rifle but it’s a short action , my question is will this 6.5 Norma function properly in this factory chambered rifle / feed reliably? Is it going to be hard to load for ? I don’t know much about this caliber as I have only heard great things about it and I do currently reload so I got the bug I want one, anybody with one of these rifles or even someone with this caliber experience please help! Thank you so much !

If you're not opposed to owning a Savage, you could probably get one of them in a LH rifle.

Yea I checked out savage as well it looks like the only 6.5 Norma there offering is a bench rest rifle , I’m looking for a true hunting rifle with preferably a walnut stock more of a classic style!

See my response in the Hunting Rifles section.
Short answer - the 1999 short action has a 3.1" magazine box.
Gunnery, gunnery, gunnery. Hit the target, all else is twaddle!

First of all, thank you for your service. If you can find a Savage at a pawn shop for a little money, I have a Savage barrel in the Norma I will send you CHEAP! I really wanted to rebarrel the LA Savage I have to a 284 Win but came across the Norma bbl 1st and bought it. I just don't think I will be satisfied with anything but the daddy of the 284 Win family. If interested, send me a PM and I promise, you can afford this deal. Eddie

The Nolser M48 Heritage Rifle comes in 6.5x284 also.
I have to edit this since their website shows it , but when you scroll down for specifics it doesn't show it. So maybe not.

Jim in Idaho nailed it. The MRC is a perfect configuration for that length cartridge.

Another option might be to have ER Shaw build one just like you want. They do left handed and they chamber for the 6.5-284. They offer stocks in Walnut and laminate.

With hunting bullets the MRC will work fine. It is only with VLD bullets 140 grains and over would you need more than a 3.1 inch mag. These can always be single loaded if you decide to use them seated long. I thought Christenson was going to start doing left hand rifles but not sure of that.

You are going to have trouble with longer bullets. Back in 2003 i had mrc put together a 6.5x55 barreled action (pretty darn close to the same length)for me. They advertised it as a long action, but it showed up a short action. Max length of the magazine on my rifle is 3.125. My rifle shoots ok with them loaded at this length but shoots great with them loaded longer. 3.125 oal causes some feeding trouble on the 2nd round but anything shorter doesn't shoot well. If you are going to shoot shorter bullets, you will be fine if not, see if they will build one on a long action for you. I will probably give up on mine one day and build a 6.5x55 on a long action and turn this one into a 260.
