LOL, the primal diet thread and this post reminded me about a situation I had, the primal thread on about how important it is for us aging men to keep leg and core strength, the old armed man in a store part came from me seeing an elderly guy just start listing to his right as I met him coming into a store as I was leaving.

I noticed it looked like his right leg and ankle area just quite working for him, or got weak or something, he threw his right arm out in the air like there was a wall there or some kind of support, I dropped my bag of sandwiches and cope, ran up and hipped the old guy on his right side with my left, and wrapped my left arm around his ribcage and back to hold him steady for a sec or two, and Yup, you guessed it, he had some sort of pistol strapped to his right side.

I have to wonder how/if he could use the damn thing without hurting himself or an innocent, I held him there till he regained his bearings, he thanked me and said, "damn son, you're fast" smile

Other than an armed escort, what other option would a man in that condition really have, other than some sort of gun? He sure as heck couldn't handle one on one with a thief or assailant.

I don't know. If his idea of concealed carry was inside his wasteband without a holster I speculate his version of open carry would have been walking around with it in his had with his finger on the trigger "ready to go".

I admit there's one way that open carry would have prevented this.

And that is if some hood rat had snatched it from him before he could drop it. Open carry is literally an invitation to steal the gun - and shoot the owner.

We have open Carry here in Wyoming. The number of mouth breathing, neck bearded fools you see carrying a high point in the waistband of their sweatpants is astounding. Blissfully unaware of how easy they’d be to disarm and pistol whip the diabeedus right out of.

Gunner. I remember an action plan you wrote a few years back, if you were going to knock off the local Reilly Auto Parts Store.

Seems I remember you would enter the store, shoot Bubba open carry in the head to neutralize him and set the tone for the rest of the operation.

In a serious conflab open carry dudes could be targets of opportunity. And an easy source of a loaded weapon.

I like the freedom of open carry, would never do so myself for tactical reasons. And for sure not in a SE OK Reilly Auto Parts Store...🙀

The old dude said you were quick....?

Boomer, the scariest thing about driving to Salt Lake tonight will be this Scottish weather. You could get kilt.

Just make sure you don't leave the car doors unlocked. If you do, there is a good chance your car will be filled with little plastic plates of cookies or grandmas fruitcakes when you get back. In the summer, it will be filled with zucchini.

I like Utah, it's very white this time of year (ALL YEAR). Gotta swap trailers, head for LA, turn around and then Helena by Monday night. For a day off!

Yah, I will be careful no daughters get sneaked in too. I swear, when I was still youthful and somewhat handsome a Mormon family invited me to dinner, round about Christmas time. I am pretty sure I was offered the choice of either ONE of two lovely daughters to be worked out amongst ourselves, of course with the condition I quit partying 100%, and if I pulled any BS it'd be dire! I have oft wondered how that woulda' worked out. Gosh, they was lovely brown-haired honeys with all the right features! Luscious and they knew what was up far more that I did.

Did you feel it ruffle your hair, Boomer? Scottish? Kilt?

Newcomers to Utah often get invited to a steak dinner. Except that it's "stake" dinner - meaning an LDS recruitment function. You only make that mis"steak" once.

No doubt about the gorgeous women, though. My neighbors have three daughters, all stunning. Lots of Nordic ancestry here, and tall, willowy blondes abound.

Just hitting 32F where I am. We'll see. I think it was indeed a stake dinner!

I don't understand why people go cheap on holsters or act like they don't even need one. I know some of them can get spendy. I paid $300.00 for a Diamond D Guides Choice. I also carry everyday in a Safariland ALS duty holster or an Alien Gear Cloak Tuck 3.0. Most of the Alien Gear holsters are under $60. The modular ShapeShift is right at $100. There is no excuse for not getting a quality holster once you've decided to start carrying.

I was about this same size when I was an altar boy. I guess I was not attractive enough for them.

SANDY — Police say a 67-year-old man accidentally shot himself while grocery shopping.

About 5:50 p.m. Wednesday, a man was shopping at Smith's, 10305 S. 1300 East, when he bent over for an item and a handgun fell out of his waistband, said Sandy Police Sgt. Jason Nielsen.

When the man picked it up, the gun went off, striking him in the right knee, Nielsen said.

No one else was injured. The man was transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Nielsen said the man was lawfully allowed to carry the weapon. As of Thursday, no charges had been filed.

I wonder if he picked it up by the trigger just like the FBI agent in Denver.......

Most folks on here will disagree, but most folks carrying concealed would be far better off with a DA revolver.

You probably already know this, but cops tend to shoot themselves quite often, too.

I-15 through SLC where the posted speed is some sort of challenge minimum speed by those comfy with their maker? Yep. Warm at least.
