Found a nice condition, un- modified flat bolt in 22-250. Guy is asking $800. Is that right, or is it a bit high. Cool looking rifle, but I don't want to overpay, either. What say the fire?

The "Reference of Ruger Firearms" lists the flatbolt M77R in 22-250 as "common". If its a 77RS (with open sights) its listed as "very rare", if it's a 77V (varmint barrel) its listed as "fairly scarce". With the flatbolt's like most things, condition and scarcity drive the price. I have 3 and haven't been disappointed with any of them. The one I own in 6.5 Rem mag is my "go to" here in Texas. Like a lot of people say: If it's what you want, buy it. YMMV.

This one is a M77R, in very nice condition. I'm going to think about it. I had one in 358 Win a while back. Smacked a few hogs with it when we lived in East Tx.

Aside from the Express & Magnum African rifles, the early flat bolts are the nicest of all the M77’s produced. Ruger spent extra time & attention to detail on assembling these early M77’s. Additionally, they will have the nice Douglas barrels which gave these early rifles the reputation for exceptional accuracy!

If it was minty with nice grain, someone out there would likely give it for their collection....if it was just nice with ho hum wood it might take awhile to recoup the investment...???????????

longshot3,
Did I understand you correctly that you had a flat bolt. 358 Win.? If I recall correctly there is only one factory .358 known to exist. Was yours a rebarrel or rebore job? If in fact it was truly a factory made .358, you sold it WAAY too cheap!

Not trying to high jack this thread, but I saw a 77 in 358 several years ago with a flat bolt, on closer examination the serial numbers on the bolt didnt match the receiver serial numbers.

Nice condition Roundoak!
I only have 1 Flatbolt...in a 243 which I would bet is the most common in that configuration. I actually found another Flatbolt last year or year before in a LGS and bought it. Unfortunately, it was also in a 243. But then I found a tang safety in a Roberts and sold the 2nd Flatbolt. Would have been a harder decision if I hadn't already had one. In fact, I'm sure I would have figured out some other way to have gotten the Roberts if that had been the case.

I hope you are kidding me. Yes, I had a 358 Win, flat bolt a few years back. If memory serves me correctly, the rifle was a factory 358. The original owner couldn't get it to shoot, so he replaced the barrel with a McGowan. That's what I was told when I bought it. Good shooter, but I had my fun with it and traded, or sold it for something else.

I have one I found in Tucson a few years ago. It’s a 30-06 with sights. It also has a round receiver instead of the usual integrated ring mounts. I still haven’t shot it yet. There was one in 270 last year but waited too long and missed out.

Futura...if you have a flatbolt in anything with sights, I suspect it is a very rare rifle. Also, from what I have read there were not many long actions made in the flatbolt. So even though the '06 is a very common caliber, the fact it is in the flatbolt makes it a tough find. Congratulations!

I recently picked up a Hollow Bolt in 7x57. It’s the one in the middle. It has a Leupold M8 4X. Long and narrow scope but pretty clear for its size. I wonder if it’s the same vintage as the rifle. The top one is the Flat Bolt 30-06 Round Top with sights and Weaver mounts. Scope is a wide view K4. The bottom one is regular tang safety marked “280 Rem or 7mm Exp Rem”. I’m not sure what the value of these rifles are. I’m hesitant to hunt with them or shoot them much because they are classics and in nice shape.

A couple years ago I bought a 4 digit 6mm flat bolt in like new condition for $350.00 shipped on another forum. I gave it to my cowboy son and lose sleep wondering how many times he's laid it on the hydra bed round bale feeder. Hopefully he carries his Rem 788 instead. By the way, I am thinking it was the RL model with the black forend tip! Is that possible?
