George H.W. Bush's service dog Sully touched the nation with a now viral photo of the yellow Labrador lying by his late owner's flag-draped casket.

The canine appears somber, but he will soon go back to work alongside two other service dogs helping wounded military personnel at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Washington D.C., according to nonprofit America's VetDogs.

He will assist with physical and occupational therapy to wounded soldiers and active duty personnel.

"As much as our family is going to miss this dog, we're comforted to know he'll bring the same joy to his new home, Walter Reed, that he brought to 41," former President George W. Bush said on Instagram.

America's VetDogs matched Sully with Bush in June, two months after Barbara Bush died. He is named after Chesley B. "Sully" Sullenberger III, the commercial airline pilot famous for safely landing a plane on the Hudson River in 2009.

Sully has become something of an internet sensation since he joined Bush. His personal Instagram page already boasts 99,000 followers. He can perform a two-page list of commands, including answering the phone, according to CNN.

The dog still has some time left with Bush before he continues his journey. He is expected to travel with the casket on the way to D.C., where the former president will lie in state in the rotunda, CNN reported.

After a funeral at the Washington National Cathedral on Wednesday, Bush's body will be flown back to Houston to lie in repose at St. Martin's Episcopal Church. Finally, he will be taken by train to his final resting place at the George Bush Presidential Library & Museum in College Station.

There are a lot of good groups around the country raising & fostering service dogs. There is a documentary on Netflix now called "Dogs". The first episode of it features a group that my daughter is involved with at Kent State University, "Paws For a Cause". My daughter raised and competed with a Blue Merle Short Haired Collie in obedience and agility for 4-H for several years. With that experience she joined the group at Kent and was recently certified at their first level of "handler" and can "babysit" the dogs for families when they travel/vacation and such without the dog. She literally just texted me this morning saying that she is getting her first dog, a puppy in training named Tera, for several days fostering tonight. The dog will go everywhere with her including her classes and is not to be left alone in a cage of such for more than 3 hours. Some of those college kids/universities actually do great things with their "dogs on campus" besides sooth snowflakes!

Regardless of how you felt about 41, that dog still has class and integrity...
