I didn’t see it as it happened live but saw it on a replay later; when one of the divisions of F-18’s came over they did the “missing man”. What I thought was so cool was when the missing man pulled up, he disappeared into the clouds. How appropriate.

Always thought this an appropriate send off for those blessed with the opportunity to fly. Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of earth, And danced the skies on laughter-silvered wings; Sunward I've climbed, and joined the tumbling mirth Of sun-split clouds, --and done a hundred things You have not dreamed of --Wheeled and soared and swung High in the sunlit silence. Hov'ring there I've chased the shouting wind along, and flung My eager craft through footless halls of air... Up, up the long, delirious, burning blue I've topped the wind-swept heights with easy grace Where never lark or even eagle flew -- And, while with silent lifting mind I've trod The high untrespassed sanctity of space, Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.

Had my cousin read this at my Dad's funeral. He was a 'Mustang' officer, coming up through the enlisted ranks before becoming a fighter pilot in the early 50's. Missing man formations never fail to tear me up, even on TV.

George H.W. Bush was not a fighter pilot in WW2... He was a dive bomber pilot... the plane he flew was the Grumman Avenger... https://www.flightjournal.com/grumman-tbf-avenger/
