Is there NOWHERE safe from the <bleep> holidays?!

Worked outside yesterday/today building a cedar fence for a dog yard we are creating. Will make it much easier to take short trips w/o the dogs and much easier on housesitters when we take longer ones.

Boat day. Lost a crab pot (luckily the one we called Ol' Crusty) (to be clear, Ol' Crusty is the crab pot, not me)..... but worse, in a fit of spasticity and dumbassedness out between the jetties in a ripping ebb tide I lost a brand new rod overboard... fawk

That's littering... Pretty cool though.

Decided to head out to a Block Management Area (BMA) to take advantage of the elk shoulder season hunt. Didn't need to use the gps because it was open, easily navigated terrain so I don't have tracks to download and determine distance. I estimate at least 4mi in ankle deep snow on a cold, snowy, windy day. Got in to a small herd of a couple dozen elk, including what appeared to be a nice bull I caught a glimpse of just as he crested the hill over the barrel in the background below. Unfortunately though, they were a tad over 600yds away and 500yds beyond the fence in the below photo, which separates the BMA from the adjacent land not part of the BMA mad The uncooperative, constantly shifting winds busted me. I found where they bedded and also where they jumped the fence so I hope to get back out to set up and wait for them.

It has been cold the past couple of days in MT. It was 8 below 0 when I started hunting yesterday morning in the block management area I hunted last Monday; couldn't wait for the great big heat tab in the sky to rise above the horizon. While driving up there the temps went as low as -19 according to my truck readout. The water in my hydration tube froze within 5min as I forgot to blow it back in the bladder. Any snot coming out of my runny nose stuck to my beard. Glad I brought my ski gloves. Put on about 5.5mi. By far the coldest day for me this hunting season.
