Hill Country Edwards Plateau Buck..the bucks are in full rut NOW...this one stepped out to my feeder at 5:30PM last nite to say hello to 4 does chowing down on some acorn flavored corn...Range 112yds...rifle Ruger SR762..Socom RC 2 Suppressor...Leupold VX6 3x18...Nosler Case, New...F210Match Primer.. 48gr TAC..Nosler 125GR. Accubond 2.750" OAL... Labradar says 2955fps at muzzle of Ruger's 16" bbl ..with suppressor attached...deer was facing me quartering slightly to the left... placed the bullet at top of left shoulder...the rifle bbl. is covering the bullet entrance.... and it dropped it at at shot..never moved....145lbs...massive gnarly chocolate antlers and old gray face...estimated at close to 5yrs. old...post mortem showed the buller violenty expanded and snapped the spine..it did exit...1/2" exit hole... and kept going..? This one is the 3rd. old mature buck taken on our lease by our hunt partners...there are more out there as all our lease partners have seen many on the game cameras...our lease/hunt partner is doing a good job of managing the deer herd on our lease..... That's a great Texas hill country deer! I don't understand why Texas Hill country deer are not a recognized sub species of whitetail like a coues deer are.

Yeah,, your right but they're so tiny compared to most deer in Texas. Maybe because they were so overpopulated for years and still are in some areas. They seem like a sub-species.

Nice buck, like the sleek coat and dark horns.

That's because 99 percent of deer killed are 3 1/2 or younger at a feeder or from a blind. The deer that survived this mess and likley 100+ days of "hunting" are most certainly not a subspecies.... 5+ year old bucks are big bodied, you just don't see them much at your corn feeder....

I hunt in Coryell County, Texas. I’ve seen a big buck twice this year but both times were outside legal shooting hours. The big bucks are very good at hiding and staying out of sight.
