Anyone have any light loads for the 270WSM? My wife will be deer hunting with this rifle this year. She shoots it great with 140gr TSX full house loads and a lead sled but the recoil is to much with out the lead sled. So right now I am just looking for a good light deer load for a 270WSM in a M70 F/W. Thanks for any help you can give.. RL

Try 55gr of H4350 with a 130gr partition I found it very accurate from 55-62gr while working up the load,62gr gives me .610'' group (3 shots) at 100 yards and 55gr was around an 1''.

RL a thought to consider is to get some of the TSX 110's and work up a load for her.
Just a thought.

Mark what powder do you think would be best with the 110gr TSX? Right now I have RL19, RL22, H4831sc, H1000, H380, Varget, Magpro, H4350, W760, and N-160 on hand. Thanks RL..

RL,
If you have a load that is accurate and effective...why have her shoot another load? Use the lead sled at the bench and i doubt she will notice recoil under hunting conditions.
My wife began hunting 3-4 years ago. Her first animal was a hog with a 9.3x62. 286gr Barnes X traveling at just shy of 2,400fps. the thing was a seriuos kicker. She did not even notice the recoil while hunting but was wayyyyy to scared to shoot it off the bench...after seeing it push me around.

The Speer manual makes a point of recommending a light-load recipe for many of the harder-kicking calibers.
In keeping with that trend, Speer online has "light" load data for the 270 WSM that recommends their 110 gr HP bullet with XMP-5744 powder. I don't have the powder charge range handy, but you can get it at Speer.com My Winchester M70 likes 25.5 gr of XMP-5744 for accuracy. IIRC it runs just around 2000 fps and recoils very lightly.
It also blows up nicely in woodchucks and other varmints, so it's got a potential use aside from a light-kicking training round.

RL: John is onto something with IMR4350;the new Hornady manual shows 52.8-IMR4350-130 Hornady giving 2800fps.Should kick like a 7x57.
The 280 Remington is overbore.
The 7 Rem Mag is over bore.
