I have Big Game, RL17, Hunter, and Varget to try in my Tikka 22.4" barrel.

What does Quickload say for these powders?

Thanks,

P

Alliant claims some pretty good velocities with RL19 and 2000mr as well.

I'm just now starting to play with 2000mr and RL17 in my 7-08.

Keep us posted on your results.

I have had trouble having any degree of accuracy in my 7-08 and 7x57 with the bullet. Not sure but think it is too long for the twist in my guns. Going to try it in the 7x57AI, maybe get lucky.

It turned out great!

I only had to change two things, the bullet and the powder. Other than that everything stayed the same.

We’ve killed elk and deer in the interim, great bullet performance.

ABLR didn’t group worth a damn.

Well that’s not encouraging ☹️ Pretty sure my Sako A7 is basically a Tikka. What to do...

I wish I had better news. I tried several powders, charge weights, and seating depths. I even tried holding my mouth different. No luck.

Do you have access to 150 ELDX bullets and Big Game powder? It’s been the bee’s knees for three Tikkas.

I have been trying to get something other than pattern from the 150 gr. ABLR in three 7x57 rifles and one .280 Remington. So far I'd have better luck urinating up a rope. The best any of the 7x57s have done is 3.5" and the .280 4.0". My last hope is playing with seating depth.

It's funny you had such different results with ablr vs eldx. They both shot nearly identical groups in my x-bolt with the same powder charge, which was good but not great. Between 1" and 1.25". I never used them on game.

Four or five Tikkas and a Ruger American that went down the road. Seven or eight shooters. 120, 140, 150 grains, all BG and WLRM.

It’s the dangedest thing.

I am going to start working up loads for a new Sako Finnlight 7-08 with NAB and Big game I usually use IMR 4064 with great results anywhere from 42 to 44gr hope it works out. I love the Accubonds in one of my other 7-08's it has been a amazing bullet on deer no matter what angle or bone I hit they have never taken another step and it has been a bunch of them. Blackwidow

Max charge of BG with 140 AB is 47.5 grains. I use it with Winchester Large Rifle Magnum primers. 2850 fps and sub-MOA.

Work up.

I went up to 47 grains and got 2,890 out of a 22.5” barrel. Use Tula LRM primers, R-P brass, 140 AB and Big Game.

If I can get the E-tip to 2,900 with Big Game, that would be a wicked little elk load....

Pharmseller,
I remember seeing that you took a few animals this year with the 150 ELD-X load. How did terminal performance compare to your 140 NAB loads? Deer only, or elk, too? I guess I wouldn't have any hesitation about the 150 ELD-X on deer, or boiler room shots on elk, but am a bit skeptical on it performing as well as the 140 AB or PT on elk, particularly if bone is encountered or maximum penetration is needed. I guess I am wondering how much terminal performance do you feel is sacrificed for a better BC?

I have a box of 150 ABLR coming from Shooters Pro Shop. Hopefully I have better luck than you getting them to group. I just have a little better confidence in the ABLR holding together on bone than the ELD-X. Then again, I really don't need either with as good as the 140 NAB shoots, but what fun with that be?
