He was just an old fella that had to go to a shooting competition and his cooey broke. I had went over to his place and came back from a bagpiping venue and he said I could either have this weird "sporterized" lever rifle, or a double barrel shotgun and the broken cooey. I went for this

Only thing I dislike about that gun is the sling studs.. had a couple come in with those. But whether it's worth a lot or not, that gun has character. I like guns with character.

Only repair I could see would be the very careful fabrication of a plug that could be epoxied into the hole. Lots of careful hand fitting.

Thanks for posting this. I didn't know Lyman made a No. 21 for the Model 99. Stroebel's book doesn't list it. Do you, by any chance, know the application code for this sight? I suspect one doesn't really need to know it as the curved portion of the sight to fit the receiver is probably unique to the Savage sight.

It is marked "SA". Someone posted a photo of a 1902 Lyman catalog that listed it. I don't think it was made for many years.

I've seen maybe 4 or 5 different model 21's for savage 99-1899's never seen a 38 for a savage. The 38's have to have a flat top to work correctly with the thumb screw windage adjustment.

The climbing Lyman is rare!
And fun 2 use!
I got one on a 1895 3003 Winchester take down.... once I get some 270 brass resized for the 3003........gonna get 2 blasting!
If you are fishing to sell this piece as in the rifle, and the climbing Lyman is meant for a marlin or Winchester I would be interested in purchasing the sight.
