I used to have an article about the Remington 40X but have long ago misplaced it. I have a chance to get a 2 year old 40XBKS for a reasonable price and would like to know about the stock and barrel installed on these. Are the stocks made by H-S Precision or Mc Millan? If I remember correctly the barrels are Remingtons. I believe the rifles have to shoot under .5 moa for calibers up to 30 cal and 30 cal and over must group within .75 moa. I am just trying to use what memory I have left. Any help out there?
Thanks again,AA

I had a 40XB-KS-repeater in 220swift. It came with a test target that was in the .4 range. The target had the load printed on it. I used a 50 gr. Speer TNT bullet and IMR 4350 powder and without any workup, came up with a load that would print .5 This was good enough for me. Now have a 40X-BBR, 22Br.and had a custom lam thumbhole stock built for it. The factory test target for it was in the .3's I'm shooting 40 gr. Ballistic silvertips through it at 3900 FPS and getting under .5 For an off the rack gun, the 40X is hard to beat, but for the same money, a person could build a custom with Pac-Nor or other barrel, and have the same accuracy, to your exact specs. Thanks Virgil, well for the $800 I paid for it, to me, it's a bargin. The last Remington I bought was a 300 win mag 700 LSS and with tax it was a shade over $700,before that a 270 win in the Sendero that was $650ish so .........now to finding a scope for it. I would think that even with a pac-nor barrel, building a custom equal to this 40X aint going to happen.
Again...... Thanks for all the replies and your help, AA

Believe the 40x's use HS precision stocks. AS far as the 40x being an off the shelf gun...............WRONG. Avaliable through Remingtons CUSTOM shop. Some gun shops may have ordered some for their product stock but these guns come from their custom shop and yes they must meet accuracy minimums. Why all the other brand stuff? US military snipers use 40x's. If they are good enough for the silent death from afar they should certainly be good enough for the general shooting public no matter what type of shooting you do.

The 40X synthetics, wear McMillan. They have minimum accuracy acceptance standards, that varies from chambering to chambering, but all would qualify as ''itty-bitty".
However, they can still be easily improved upon,by a good 'Smith, regarding action blueprinting.............
