Good morning, I did a search , but nothing came up. Anybody use Snake Oil on the wood of their Savage's. Thought I might try some depending on the reviews.

Bought a bottle about 6 or 7 years ago, got about half a bottle left.
I put it on about 2x a year.

I don't know if it has protective qualities but it sure brings out the Hollywood in a firearm.

Ok, so if you don't use Snake Oil, what do you use?

Do you think pure Beeswax would work? I have bee hives, so have plenty of that.

I use it sparingly in wood and metal. I keep it out of checkering.

I think I will order a bottle and give it a try. I will try some paste wax on a couple and compare the results.
Thanks

I have been using Johnson's Paste wax for years. Protects both wood and metal. Started using it in Southeast Alaska, where it rained all the time. Haven't tried Snake Oil except for drinking, I'm pretty sure it wasn't the same kind your talking about.

For those that may have used both, which would you prefer - Snake Oil or Renaissance Wax?

Renn Wax, hands down.
An old friend of mine is a conservator at the Smithsonian. He/they use Renn Wax religiously which is good enough for me. (Although I have a half dozen different waxes in addition to Renn wax on my shelf and they all work swell.)

I have used Johnson's Paste Wax for years, I also have a can of Rennaisance Wax and see no advantage that would offset the additional cost.

I have used Old West Snake oil, but have switched to Rennaisance wax, I think I have 4 full bottles of snake oil, Id sell for about half price a bottle! or swap for a large Can of Renn. wax!
Deer Camp! about as good as it gets!
