I have a 99F in .308 inherited from my father-in-law. I will use it in the big woods of northern New England where a 100 yard shot is unlikely.
Money is an object (kids in college). I am considering a Weaver Classic V-Series 1x3x20 at 8.5 ounces.
Is this a poor choice? Are there better choices?

I had a Burris with a 22 mm objective and switched to a Leupold 4X to get a bigger objective lens. Even though the straight tube scopes look better, I feel they are just too dim.

I think you'll be happy. I have my grandfathers 99 in 300 savage and it still carries the Bushnell ScopeChief 2(or 2.5?) by 20 and I wouldn't change the scope out for any hunting in New England.
With money being tight, I'd say go ahead and enjoy and don't look back.

I've been a fan of the Weaver V-3's for quite awhile and used one this past fall for hunting in NW WI and it worked great. Since then I bought a used Luepold VX-II 1x4x20 and am really impressed to the point that I replaced the Weavers on my coyote guns with A VX-II and a VariX-II 1x4x20. The V-3's just move to a couple of shorter range guns.
If cost is a factor the Leupold VX-I 1x4 shotgun scope is paralax adjusted for 75yrds and should work well for your hunting situation.

After the first shot the rest are just noise.
