If a 1/2 to 5/8 adapter is all that’s needed on the Kimber, is there enough meat on the Tikka barrel (7mm) to thread 1/2-28 and use an adapter? Yes, typically.

I saw 400 yards mentioned in the first post but assuming a truck gun is not being used on game animals by default it’s for varmints.
Yo Josh, what are you shooting out of your truck and with what?

Don't fool with a caliber specific suppressor, go with a 30 cal. The flexibility of using it on everything far outweighs the 2-3 decibels you may loose going caliber specific. I promise you once you get it and start using it, you'll be cutting threads on anything you can.
Don't skimp! If I'm waiting 7-8 months to get one and dropping $200 on a tax stamp, it's not gonna be for a no name, knock off built in some guys garage on the weekend.
Spot on josh. It was tough for me right outta the gate to chop barrels down thinking I'd be losing precious velocity, potential resale value, or the suppressor not living up to expectations. Later, realizing the error of my ways, I had them chopped down and threaded again. I've never regretted it.

And shorty ARs aren't 400 yard guns, at least not for any animal you care about. I’ve killed, and seen killed deer significantly farther than 400 with 10.5” barrels. It isn’t 1995 anymore- there are bullets that expand past 400m from 10.5’s.

Once you start shooting suppressed on a regular basis, it kinda grows on you. Only have one bolt rifle with threads for my center fire can. A .300 BO. With subsonic ammo is a hoot. Bullet slapping the mud pond bank at 400 yards seems to make more noise than the rifle discharge. If I were going to buy a factory rifle for a suppressed deer rifle, it would probably be a CA Ridgeline in 6.5 CM. The Ridgeline because the thicker Carbon barrel looks a little better (to me) with a can. And, I beleive the Ridgeline comes threaded 5/8x24, no adapter required. The 6.5 CM, just to see what all the fuss is about... As far as cans, I went the "Buy once. Cry once." route and purchased a .30 caliber titanium can rated for .300 WM just to not have to worry about which rifle I put it on. Not cheap. Maybe a little heavy for some tastes. But, I've been known to tear up an anvil with a rubber mallet before. Over engineering works better for me...

Agreed here.... my SAS Arbiter is Ti, and it’s tough as nails. I’ve shot it uber hot, banged it around hunting, and run a bunch or .300 RUM through it. A couple buddies have aluminum cans, and a few have had to go back to the Manufacturer due to hunting related damage.

Yep to both. The TMK and 75gr GD are probably the best bet, but 62gr and 64gr Fusion and GD, 62gr SOST, 60gr VMax, and a couple others have all done fine.

Basically, a 75/77 zeroed at 200 would be about 3 feet low at 400 and only have about 1500fps. Better have a rangefinder because if you are off just 25 yds you can add 10 more inches to that drop.

It’s not an opinion, I’ve done it over, and over, and over, and over, and over... I don’t zero at 200. I don’t hold 3 feet high. And who the fugg doesn’t use a rangefinder? No one has walked up and seen the damage caused at 400 yards and wished for “more”. Matter of fact I have started using different bullets in the 223 because it causes too much damage for meat.

There are a few people on this board I will NOT argue with on matters regarding firearms, ballistics and such. The short line of those forms behind Formidilosus.

I have hunted many years but have learned a lot from Form and put some of his ideas into practice. Regarding the Internet, I never take people at face value but will take what I learn and apply it in the field to gather my own personal knowledge. From actual on game performance and field experience, not keyboard experience, what he states is generally quite true. R

More great info, thank you guys!
I've got a decent idea of what style can to go with now I am narrowing down the cartridge and rifle. (I don't need another rifle but this is a 'specialty' setup...)
Gonna be over the original budget but what about a Fieldcraft in either 6 or 6.5 Creedmoor?
How do the lightweights handle with a can?
6 Creed be a little flatter inside of 400 yards compared to the 6.5?
Haven't bought a rifle in a few years so I'm past due.

6 Creed running 87 Vmax at about 3150ish is pretty flat.... +3 MOA from a 100 yard zero at 300 yards. Kids took 2 shots each... nobody missed... can’t think of a better coyote/deer/lope rig. Factory ammo is awful cheap too...
