The leather bags are filled with sand and the support bags are old 25 pound shot bags filled with wheat. They are much lighter than sand and easier to mold and shape for a support to the sand bags. If you were ever in a tough spot, you could also eat the wheat if you were starving...

I use the old corn cob media from my tumbler when I change it out.

x2 ....... I use sand. Carry the bags in a 5gal bucket in the back of my truck so weight doesn't matter. Found that sand will settle and stay put better than other lighter fillers.

Leave enough on one end to use as a handle for easy carrying.

For me the plastics beads previously mentioned are the closest thing to sand without the weight.

I make some of my own bags out of old pant legs too. I know some shooting supply places sell the ground up plastic or rubber for bag filler but, I have good luck with popcorn seeds or soybeans. I put them in ziplock bag before sewing them in the cloth bag for moisture barrier. I guess it depends where you live on what kind of seeds you use!

Beans and peas. Both put in small zip-loc bags then into the rest. As with wheat, you can always eat the beans and peas.

It would cost about 75 bucks in gas to make a roundtrip to the beach grin

Dry beans or deer corn for front bags, heavy sand for rear rabbit-ears.

+1 on the plastic beads. They're light, hold up extremely well, don't rot and if they get wet they're easy to dry out.

We went to the beach once - didn't take any food. We just ate the sand which is there. See what i did - "sand which is" / "sandwiches" - get it?

I go along with Virginian2 on the reasons to use plastic beads. I use the plastic beads that are for an air soft gun. Only drawback I've found to them is if you spill some on the ground, they will be there forever. Being bright colored, they don't blend in with the dirt very well.

I use a chopped-up recycled tire material that is typically sold in hardware stores for playgrounds. It’s got good weight and feel without being messy.
