I have bought 3 different brands so far this winter, Stanley, Thermos and some other piece of crap. I preheat with boiling water, carry in an OR water bottle parka and soup/coffee is luke warm after 4 hours in moderate cold weather. Who makes a good one that is 25-32 oz wide mouth and actually keeps stuff hot? Cost is not a problem.

I have had my best luck with Nissan. I have a couple and they keep my stuff hot 8 hours plus.

I used a Thermos brand this year hunting. Put boiling water in, 6 bags of black tea. Had to throw ice in the cup at lunch to drink it. Didnt drink it all and left it in my truck. Next day I thought where the hell is my thermos? Went out in the truck, went to dump it out and it was still steaming.

lvmiker,
The "old-school" STANLEY fits your needs. Amazon & ebay sell the WIDE-mouth bottles in several sizes at attractive discounts.
I bought my last two Stanley bottles at GOODWILL for 6 & 8 bucks each in as new condition.
yours, tex

I was gifted a yeti, threw the rest away. Hot or cold best, I, have ever used. I would not buy one myself, it was a gift from a young man I mentored in shooting and reloading.

I have some Yeti products that were gifts or that I got on deep sales...as far as I can tell, RTIC keeps right up with them for far less. Just FYI if you're looking for future purchases.

Was given a$30 gift card once for Starbucks. I hate Starbucks coffee so I bought a thermos. It was a smaller one that held about 3 cups of coffee which is perfect for me. I believe it was right around$25, but that was the absolute best thermos I've ever owned. Took a serious beating for about 10 years and inner lid finally cracked. Bought another one there going on 3 years now. I have no idea who(in China) makes these for Starbucks, but they're the best IMO.

mike r Ebay, look for early Alladin not late, also worth your while searching "leather thermos case" as well. When searching for those be very picky as a lot are missing straps or are the later crap vinyl units. The thermos' I have pictured are all early-ish and each and every one will hold a scorching cup of hot water to nineteen hours...tested by myself in use and by thermometer. I went through a few to get what I wanted but I do have four excellent thermos'. Of note is the early thermos on the right that I picked up in as new condition in box, I dumped the cork and sourced a "Snap-tite" stopper...worth every penny. I got to be very picky about thermos' as I used them whilst shearing and roo shooting, and a good unit is worth what ever it takes to purchase. Which is somewhat ironic as I now very rarely use them.
These are my opinions, feel free to disagree.

NISSAN makes great bottles. I have some by Yeti, and WallMart that are as good as it gets. The Walmart ones are the best out there for the money. I have tested them using digital thermometer and clock. They are as good as any other brand, in some cases performing better

I have some Yeti products and I’ve been underwhelmed. They are fine but I think they are mostly hype/marketing. Made in China and no better than competing brands. I think the Stanleys are the most durable but I like something less bulky for my day pack. I have a bunch (Stanley, Nissa, Themos, Yeti) and They all work fine.

Brand aside, it's the wide mouth that makes temp holding harder. More surface area means more heat conduction, and therefore cold soup.

My grandmother used to have to put fresh brewed coffee in the microwave for 45 seconds or so. The coffee maker could not get it hot enough for her. Normal part of the aging process. Might just be a case of unrealistic temperature expectations....

I just ordered the Rtic via Amazon and will hope for the best. I may have a collection before winter ends. I can always resort to my canister stove. Thanks for all the suggestions.
