Does anyone have any experience with the 250 savage as a varmit round? My buddy has one and he came to me with a question about loads with a 75 grain v max. Thank you in advance. I use the 22-250 a lot but have 0 experience with a 250 savage.

My Ruger really likes the Sierra 75 hp over Varget. Only used it on 2 or 3 coyotes, no problem there. A few years ago I got a good deal on some 87 Speer TNTs and have been using them more often with Ramshot Big Game for steel gongs and called predators. Both have been very accurate, but we just don't have many classic varmints to hunt in this area. I don't have any doubts about either load being a good choice for ground hogs.

Like Ole 270, have had good luck with 75's in the .250 with Varget and Big Game, along with RL-15, CFE223 and IMR 8208 XBR. Mostly have used the 75 V-Max. The .250 isn't too picky.

75 grain VMax or Sierra HP over 36 grains of H4895 in Winchester/Olin brass.
I started shooting the 250-3000 in a Savage 99G back when Winchester/Olin still offered a 75 grain factory load.
I also like the 87 grain Speer TNT and 90 grain Sierra HPBT over 35 grains of H4895. Your 700 Classic has a 1-10" ROT barrel, so you have lots of component bullet weight/length options.

I own a 700 classic .250 savage. It shoots 75gr. Vmaxes like a laser. But it will flat out destroy fur..........
Take care, Willie

Never tried the 75 in my .250. 85 BTs work OK, but the 100 NPT confused me a lot. I dunno what to do. BT's on top, NPT on the bottom. 100 yards, bag rest, back to back from a rebarreled 700 ADL.
I am..........disturbed.

Alliant used to list the .250, but not now. They said 38.3gr RL15 with the 75gr Sierra. In the 700, I worked up to 40.3gr for 3415fps. Later switched to the 75gr V-max at about 3370 and equal accuracy, but flatter trajectory. That load really hammers the chucks.
