Just seeing what’s available going on a safari hunt in 2020. Looking for something bigger than the 300win mag.

I have a custom .458 Win Mag on a Pre 64 action. If you need a dangerous game rifle this is set-up with all the bells and whistles.

Whitetails45, My Darla & I are planning a hunting trip to Southern Africa next Fall & my choice for most every animal, including Cape Buff, is my Model 760 in 9.3x62mm that JES reformatted for me, using a .30-06 with a pitted barrel as its base. 'Ole OTTO BOCK "knew what he was about" when he designed the 9.3x62 Mauser cartridge well over a century ago, as rifles in that caliber have efficiently taken every BIG game animal on Planet Earth (including many rhino & elephant) & W/O kicking your head off. = 285 grains of JSP or solids at over 2300FPS is no "pussycat". Offhand, I can think of at least a dozen "inexpensive to buy in good shape, used" rifles that Jessie at JES will rebore/rechamber to that caliber for about 225.oo including return shipping. His work is done QUICKLY & is PEERLESS, imo. (I have a total of just over 355.oo in MY "dangerous game rifle", that I bought out of a local estate sale in 2015.) yours, tex

I have a as NIB Cabelas Ltd. Model 70 .458 Win Mag that I put a Nikon African Illuminated scope on that I would sell. Beautiful wood on this gem, and I'm probably not making an African trip in this lifetime. Can send pictures if interested.
It's a South Carolina made Model 70.

Are you hunting dangerous game or plains game? I can't imagine choosing a 458 for plains game. The 375 H&H is the classic choice and will handle all plains game from duiker to eland and is effective on cape buffalo as well.
Just trying to be helpful.

I have a Stainless Montana Rifle Co. Model 1999 Short Action chambered in .35-.300 WSM. I bought it from the manufacturer as a barrelled action. They furnished and installed, and then chambered the barrel. Later I bought a Winchester M70 Featherweight stock and had a gunsmith fit it to my barrelled action. It will come with a Redding .35-.300 WSM die set. I have chronographed the Sierra 225 gr at 2,975 fps; the Speer 250 gr at 2,775 fps; and the reduced Speer 270 gr (9.3mm) at 2,600 fps. I always felt safe hunting with it in Alaska. Asking $1,550 for the rifle and dies, plus shipping. Request pics from jwatkins customcpu.com, or tell me how to post them here. Jerry/AK

Didnt say what you are hunting. Unless it’s elephant, lion, buffalo or hippo, the 300 win is more than adequate. If I were going back for non dangerous game, I’d probably take a 338 win.

Indeed, more specifics of what game is on the table and what country it will be hunted.

Indeed, more specifics of what game is on the table and what country it will be hunted. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^THIS^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ Largest plains game is Elan. 300 WM will work for that. Otherwise, unless you are going for something that requires a specific caliber Like Buffalo, Hippo, Elephant, etc, in a specific country you are golden.
