So I’m building a rifle and was originally going for 6.5x284 Norma but when going to rent a reamer I noticed three drofferent styles of 6.5x284 ? Can anyone help me make sense of this ? Thanks

I use Lapua brass in my 6.5-284 Norma.
The Norma is SAAMI, the Winchester still a wildcat.
When you see “6.5-284” it’s gonna be the std Norma round.

Go 6.5-06,give bullets a thunk,twist/throat in accordance and cut to the chase.

Extry round in the belly(as a minimum),better shape/fit to your Donor action, vastly superior logistics and like case capacity...if only for starters.

I’m liking the sound of it , what about brass availability? Do I have to form it or can I buy it ?

Is '06 brass "rare"?(grin)
"Forming" is an abused misnomer, because until a Virgin hull is fired in a rifle(ANY fhuqking rifle),it is UNformed. Hint. The beauty of the 6.5-06 is that you can control both neck tension and headspace with 100% fhuqking control, from the first shot(which predicates case life, amogst other attributes).
You can reap same ala any 270,280,or '06 hull, from any Maker.
Hint.
You've been led to water.
Thank me later.................

Stick makes some good points. The 6.5-06 will feed slicker than the 6.5-284 in a std action. Takes tweaking sometimes to get feeding as slick with the 6.5-284. A good smith worked on mine. It feeds slick. Just need to take that into account.

I "only" shoot multiple 6-284's,a trio of 25-284's and multiple 284's.

Ya think the new 6.5 PRC will crowd 6.5-284 market share?

There was a good article recently on the fallacy of the advantage of the Norma vs Win chamber; it’s essentially nil.
