Getting back into the deer hunting game And I have a interarms action .300 win mag yet I have never shot a deer with it ( savage .300 hunter).I bought the rifle not based the rifle and not the caliber so I have always wondered what’s the best factory .300 win load for deer in terms of not trying to destroy a deer if a 70 ya shot presents itself.
Based on my own 300 Mag deer killing experience use a Fed Premium with 180 gr NPT and only take rib cage shots at that range if you hit either shoulder you can count on throwing it away ( that shoulder). I eventually went to 165 gr flatbase Hornady sp' s loaded to 3000 fps and still only took rib cage shots. If you like too eat them just pound them thru the ribs. MB
