I hunted whitetails with Joe back in 2007 at his Russell Pond operation in northern Maine. It was a good hunt and he and his guides worked hard for the hunters in camp. Deer were extremely scarce though, and we saw very little game. I saw three moose and a coyote in a week of hunting. We have not been back.
We hunted the headwaters of the St; John River and some other areas near the lodge on Russell Pond itself. Beautiful country to be in and the camp life each evening after dinner was really fun. I really enjoyed talking with Joe's elderly father about his experiences in that country. I think he was in his early 70's then and was still guiding a couple hunters.
