kk alaska,
It looks like you have about a 1961 made rifle there according to the serial number. The A at the end of the number denotes the aluminum alloy floorplate and triggerguard. Earlier ones were steel. It does use the Husqvarna 1640 type action but, for a specific model I have two questions. Is the barrel 21.5 inches or 20.5 inches specifically? What does the barrel have inscribed on the top of it specifically? I really like those Husky carbines. They are made to carry all day. Nice rifle.
Regards, sixfive

Looks like you have a Husqvarna 4100 model rifle specifically. They were imported by the Tradewinds Company out of Washington. If you can find a copy of their old ads or catalogs the rifle is probably advertised in there. The H-5000 model had the 21.5" barrel and the barrel would have probably read H-5000 on the top. The 4000 model was the same as yours but had the Monte Carlo stock.

Trigger can be a little creepy sometimes. Still, a very good rifle and a nice model
Steel is as good as any, workmanship as well
Very very nice

At least the bolt handle is on the correct side!

At least the bolt handle is on the correct side! Not for KK. He's goofy handed.

Yes bolt is on wrong side for me but not for boys or wife. Do the stocks have a reputation of cracking or like most Mauser style need relief behind tang?

Never hurts to check the relief behind the tang on these rifles. By the time this rifle was made I think Husqvarnas inletting was much improving. Just me personally, I like to glassbed the recoil lug area on larger caliber Husqvarnas as a added precaution to prevent stock cracking. I know a lot of people feel it is not necessary or makes it unoriginal. I look at it as a durability precaution that doesn't detract from appearances because I want to shoot my rifles a lot and it makes sense to me. Especially with a Husqvarna in .30-06 or bigger. Just my two cents worth there. I am sure it will be a good rifle to you and your family.

If the stock has already been cut it isn't original, so anything done to it now isn't going to make it any less original than it already is.

IIRC a 4100 will weigh really close to 6 1/2 lbs for the bare rifle. Guessing that recoil with heavy loads in an 06 will get your attention. I like the looks of those rifles (especially the 4000s).

Husky bolt rifles are probably the best buy on the market today.
