Thinking about upgrading the scope I have mounted on my slug gun. 20 gauge TC Encore Pro hunter. Really like this fire arm been hunting on damage permits for years and they keep changing regulations as the buildings get closer this is pretty much the best option where I'm at right now. Current optic is an older model VX2 that is just not that great in low light at all. Considering using the firearm for deer and turkey as most shots are under 100 yards buying the change out turkey barrel as well as my current rifled slug barrel is kind of a no brainer.
Question for VX2 owners. Are the newer VX2 models better than the older? The one I have holds zero like a champ.
What are your thoughts/questions?
Good luck and shoot straight all and thanks in advance.

Varix-II, VX-II, VX-2, Freedom. The VX-2 was the last of the VX-1/2 line. I'd look at one of the 1.5-6x40/42/44mm Euro scopes for bright on a slug gun. This might be nice https://cameralandny.com/spec-sheet.html?catalog[name]=Meopta-Artemis-2000-1.5-6x42---4-1.5-6x&catalog[product_guids][0]=1898225

Not sure how it kicks, but my Encore with the 12ga slug barrel kicks like a bastard. I can't remember what it was, but I had a rifle scope on it originally and it knocked the crap out of me. I ended up putting a Nikon Slug Hunter on it with a 5" eye relief. No more scope eye. I did break one once, but Nikon replaced it free of charge. It's been a good scope.

Thanks Stonecutter I had the Leupold slug hunter on a 220 Savage I owned previously and had no complaints with it. But I sold it with the shot gun. I also own an ABOLT 12 ga bolt action slug gun and recoil is significant and with either you can end up with scope eye the 20 is not quite as bad though. Did you purchase the shell holder from TC? Nice buck BTW.

nikon makes a nice prostaff 2x7 set up for shotgun hunting. parallax is set at 75 yards. i know they can take a beating i have the rifle version of the same scope(100 yard parallax) on a 35 whelen cva scout single shot( 6lbs 5 oz.) the light little monster kicks like a mule with 225 max loads and the scope hasnt budged in 3 years ive owned it. that includes a lot of testing off a leadsled, if that wont break it I dont think anything else will.

If you're not allergic to Leupolds, the VX-5 HD Doug (and Leupold) gave me is very nice in low light, probably the best I've ever used (a small sampling admittedly), even with the kinda wide duplex. How they hold up under recoil is anyone's guess, as some of all of them seem to crap from time to time. Worth a look, anyway.
Personally, I'd avoid the cheap ebay models unless your risk-tolerance is high.

Something with lots of eye relief - all of those I have shot have kicked like a mule!

Nice buck BTW. Thanks. I just got a new one of those shell holders in the mail a few minutes ago. I got it from Cabela's for about $5.00. I needed a new one because the old one got stretched out and was loose. It lasted about 6 or 8 years. I can reload it pretty fast with the shells right there. However, with the 12ga slug, there's usually no need to reload unless I'm going for 2. Also, that Nikon has a BDC reticle on it for the longer shots.
