That all depends on what components you use and plumber.

Depends on what your tastes are. If I'm building something I'm using a custom action no doubt, and nicer components.

Here's a quick reference off the top of my head.

Action: somewhere on average of $1,200 for that with a range of 900-1800.
Stock: could be a couple hundred all the way to a thousand.
Barrel: 300 ish for stainless steel up to 800 for carbon wrapped.
Trigger: 200 ish
Bottom metal: 150-400

Smith fee: 400 and up depending on what you have done.

I've had 4 built. I've eclipsed 3k on all but one of mine. Only one that I haven't was due to the fact of finding a used take off barrel matching what I wanted.

It's fun, addicting, and of course. ...expensive.

That is about right. Though you can get a solid trigger for less then $200.

Heres what I was starting to think...

barrel: proof research 800
stock: stockys 600
trigger: jewell 250
bottom metal: hs precision 275
action: stiller 1000

Are smith fees usually around something like 400 bucks? Thats the only thing I really have no idea how much it would cost.

Guess I have expensive taste. But boy would that thing be sweet!

You couldn't run fast enough to catch me,in order to hand me a Proof spout,Stocky handle or HS DBM. Jewell is THE last fhuqking trigger I'd put on a Utility Killing rifle. Hint.

Congratulations?!?...................

I'm not committed to any of them I was just spitballing ideas. But opinions are appreciated! The more I look into different pieces, the more expensive it gets haha.

Kingston Really?

Bartlein Barrel $345 vs PR @ $800= savings of $455
McMillan Stock depending if new or used $$$
Timney Calvin Elite $230 vs Jewell $250= savings of $20
Seekins DBM $180 vs HS $275= savings of $95

$570 savings

Was looking for a longer range rifle for animals on up to elk, but still relatively lightweight (scoped weight under 10lbs). I was looking at the proof barrels for the weight savings, not necessarily the accuracy. Chambered in 28 Nosler, 300win mag or even 300rum. I will be shooting copper bullets to comply with state laws.

Just bought a used birch/blue Savage 111 in 7mm RM for a custom build. Short term costs:

$279.00 - rifle
$25.99 - bolt head replacement for .473" case heads
==================
$304.99 total so far

$300.00 - anticipated cost of match barrel
$39.99 - Limbsaver Air Tech recoil pad
==================
$644.98 - Anticipated cost of build

Will glass bed the action and already have the materials to do that from other glass bed jobs.

There may come a time when I replace the trigger ($85 to $150), but after adjusting the factory trigger it is plenty good for now. A little polishing will improve it even more.

More specific you are and the maker, the more specific your estimate will be.

I've put together customs for around $1500 and I've seen customs that ran $12K in .22 rimfire.... it's a big world out there when you want to build customs....

Here would be my recipe with a Rem 700 action- true custom actions like Stiller, Surgeon, etc... add anywhere from $500-$1000

Rem. 700 RUM action (28 Nosler is built on the same case as the RUM) this way you'll get the right length action to use long bullets, the correct mag box for the fat case, and the correct bolt face $500 in Stainless
Timney 510 or 512 or Calvin Elite trigger depending on your budget. $150
Manners or McMillan stock, depending on style, fit, and availability $500-$600
If you're into wood like I am, stock cost gets into a whole new category..
Bartlein, Benchmark, Shilen, or Lilja barrel or equal- figure about $350- Stainless - if Carbon steel and blued add about $200.... order in the profile that best fits your needs
Custom ground recoil lug $50
Warne or equal picatinny style base rail. Warne split rings - about $150
Smith work to thread, chamber, face action, check for run out, bolt face, etc... $375-$450
Shipping back and forth if necessary $100 (with insurance).
Add approx $450-$1500 for glass
Add another $300 for enough ammo to get it sighted in and get proficient- 28 Noslers ain't cheap to feed and care for. Reloading would be a good idea once you accumulate some brass...
This isn't an entire list and I'm sure I've missed something along the way but it will get you in the ball park. There will always be a few extras like bedding if you want it done by somebody else, or pillars, or.....

Now, some of this cost can be adjusted by buying carefully used equipment on the classified here or another place. Also, sometimes you can pick up a stock, barrel, or other parts that would have a long lead time from the manufacturer on the classifieds immediately. This is especially true for barrels and McMillan stocks which seem to have longer and longer lead times. 3-6 months isn't uncmmon any more...

Pick your poison....

Bob

Bullets are wayyyyyyyy more important than headstamps and mono's simply suck ass,in aero form. Hint.

A 168 Barnes .284" LRX will grant a .550BC(basically the same as a Hornady .224" 88gr ELD). You'll gain wayyyyyyyyyy more in a platform that is FUN to shoot, than some bullschit fhuqking STUPID Niche Rifle, that both Barks and Bites. Hint. Spent primers remain THE Supreme Tutorial and nothing else, comes even close. Re-hint.

Simply buy a Barrett Fieldcraft 7-08,poke a 6x MQ on it and shoot the fhuqk outta it. Whistle Mono's,think they're "great",then treat yourself to a box of 180 ELD's and see THE light. Hint.

Recoil will be in check. Precision will be in check. Balance/handling will be in check. FUN will be in check. Your check will be in check...and Critters will be fhuqked,if you do your part. Proficiency cain't be purchased and lotsa folks are quick to overlook that.

You've been led to water.

Hint.....................(grin)
