Years ago I hunted the Rex Kelly Ranch just north of Lost Maples State natural area. The owner musta been kin to Dr. Doolitle, as he never killed anything. We'd ride out in the pasture, he'd bang a coffee can on the side of his pickup and we'd be swarmed with critters. I built this pen for him and put demand feeders in so the axis and white-tails could eat undisturbed by the hoglets.
We did not hunt this part of the ranch as it was near his house.
Tom had names for all his pets. IIRC that is "Hartford" on the right!
These kudu are at a waterhole about 30 yards away from the lodge where I stayed in South Africa. No hunting was allowed there just so visitors can see the various critters come in at mid-day. I would go up on the balcony with a book and camera to watch them come in. Other animals that came in were springbok, wildebeest, eland, oryx, impala and kudu cows.
I had killed a wildebeest and the PH and trackers dropped it off at the skinning shed, when we came upon these bulls. We were in the Land Rover and that is where I took this picture. The lodge gate opening is 30 yards to the left and the residents quickly closed the gates upon seeing the bulls at the waterhole!
