OP,

I had a G20 many years ago and traded it because I could never get used to the size of the grip. I now have a G29 which I've kept and like better, but it's not my favorite 10mm. Again grip configuration - both angle and circumference are not quite right for me.

As a result, I now have both a Colt DE and the Ruger SR1911 10mm. I have different purposes for these 2 pistols. The DE is a great urban EDC if you decide to carry a 10mm for SD CCW. I reserve the Ruger for walks in the woods, where bears are possible, in my part of the country.

BTW, I fitted a tritium sight on both the SR1911 and the G29, preserving the adjustable Ruger RS.

The Ruger is a bit heavier than the DE, although very well balanced. The Ruger is built like a tank, with a ramped barrel, so I wouldn't hesitate to run full power loads, with the right springs and a square EGW firing pin stop.

Wildcatter264, your experiences are helpful, thanks.
There are a ton of new 10mm 1911's, and a couple of them have RMR's mounted from the factory.
Unfortunately they are realistically out of my budget. I'd have to sell something else to fund a Springfield Range Officer or something like it.

I wonder if Ruger has had any more of those lug breakage problems. That's about the only thing keeping me from just picking up the Ruger Target.

That's a nice one Ed, but I think I'm staying autoloader on this one.

I have a S&W M657 that makes the 610 a little less of a need.

I haven't looked at the Rock Island offerings. Do you have any experience with them in 10mm?

Edit; OK, so the Ultra is double stack. That makes it too big for me.

I have a G40 with RMR. If I could, I'd get the Springfield TRP with RMR.

M Stevenson,
I got the sr1911 10mm a while back. Really like the pistol. Other than changing out the front sight I've done nothing. While I haven't shot it a ton, I bet I've put maybe 1,000 rounds through it and only had 3 malfunctions. Those malfunctions went away with an ammo change. It's digested all my handloads including the lehigh penetrators, which really surprised me. Awesome deal for a quality 1911 in 10mm from my standpoint. I own the G20 and have shot the G29 a decent bit as well. Both of those have been dependable. Not a dis on the Glocks at all, I just shoot the Ruger better and enjoy it more.

They're nice. The problem is, they don't give them away.

If your hands are only the size of those of a mortal man, look at the new Springfield XDm in 10mm. I've had the G40. I didn't like it. Too big Too Clumsy and Too Little Accuracy. Moved it. Handling the XDm 10mm right next to the Glock 10mm of your flavor, you'll feel the difference quickly. The SA is more better in grip size. Has pic/light rail too.

I don't personally own one, but will order one next month. But the grip is small and fits normal sized hands better on the XD

Look at an XDM from Springfield Armory they make 10 mm with two different brl. and slide lengths. I have the shorter one. 4.5 inch brl. My hands will not work with the g20 Glock.

Check your LE discount on it as it’s a pretty decent chunk off. By the time a guy gets a G40, RMR, aftermarket barrel and trigger the LE price on the TRP RMR is only about $250 more.

I sold my STI 10mm this summer to buy the TRP and got busy. I expect the rectify that in the next few weeks just need to decide on 5” vs 6”.

Since I'm retired and not quite as money flush as I used to be, the TRP is out of my price range.
Seriously nice pistola though.

The TRP is really nice, but more than I wanted to spend, so I picked up a new SA Range Officer Elite Operator in 10mm.

You may want to check them out. https://www.springfield-armory.com/products/1911-range-officer-elite-operator-10mm/

Have only had it out once so far, but fit, finish and function are perfect. Even piled the empties in one spot.

Are you any closer to a decision?

And no, I have not owned a Rock Island but looked at them that last few years based on price. I started with an Auto Ordinance, then went through severeal Springfields and last, a Kimber Ciassic, one of the first that showed up in Houston.

I have a Rock 10mm and have zero complaints. Its accurate and eats any kind of ammo I can throw at it. I looked at a new Springfield XD a few days ago and I like it. The grip is very comfortable for a 15 round 10mm. I thought hard about buying the XD but I'm holding out hoping S&W offers one in the M&P line.
