I called western powders today.
They stated exterminator powder was most suited for the 375, compared to TAC.
They also stated exterminator powder was preferred in the 356, TAC is too slow burning?
But they had a recipie for 300 grain bullets with the 38/55.
I have a 375 marlin.
The load data for a 38/55 is maxed at 32 grains.
I could fit 33 grains of tac in a 375 case, get it to 2.56 inches, used a cci 250 primer. It shot fine. The max velocity in the recipie was 1700.
I also worked up 220 grain Speer hotcors in the 356 it showed very little primer change if any at 47 grains, but it was 20 degrees outside. The ammo was fairly warm being kept in the truck, and I worked up from 44 rains .5 grain at a time so the barrel was warm, but not hot. I was using cci 250 primers.
My questions are:
1. Is there any reason to keep going higher on the 356 I am tempted to try 46, 46.5 and47for accuracy , looks like a 358 bolt can go higher , but this is a Marlin 336 action I am using.
2. If I settled for 38/55 load data in a 375 with a 300 grain Hornady bullet, can these also be used in a 38/55?
3. How come in Hornady reloading book some round nose interlocks are rated to be effective at 1600 fps, but this particular interlock is listed to need 2300 fps?
4. Has anyone been around exterminator powder? Is it beneficial for the 356 compared to tac?
Thanks!
