Looks like the 54 is obsolete. I can't find much in the non sabot line of bullets. I don't want to invest in everything needed to cast my own. If anyone knows of any offerings please let me know. Thanks

Dang. I was going to make some suggestions but it looks like they're out of production. Looks like patched round ball or stay home. Same thing happened with .58 caliber stuff 10-15 years ago. I have an unfired.54 cal Lyman Deerstalker. Maybe I'll sell it rather than shoot it and buy a .50 instead.

No Excuse conical, Bull Shop conical and there's a guy on Gunbroker that sells a bunch of different lead bullets for the .54.
Making black powder smoke is a great thing..

Guessing your twist rate makes roundballs not an option? I've been killing a lot of critters with .530 lead balls lately.

Roystu,
Lee's REAL bullets are available for the .54 caliber & those are KILLERS on BIG/TOUGH game. = I shoot lots of them, that I cast myself, in .58 caliber.

I have three boxes of 530 balls but I haven't found a patch that is thin enough to use them in the Knight. I don't know what the twist is in this rifle. The balls worked great in my old T/C Renegade.

Thanks Terry, That bullet is just what I was looking for. I had been on Hornady's site and saw that they discontinued them.

I use the Great Plains conicals and .530 round ball in my Tc Hawken and Renegade rifle. I need to find a patch that I can shoot the 530 balls with. I have a ton of them but most patches I have tried are too thick for this barrel. I miss my Renegade. Too bad TC doesn't make it anymore.

54 roundballs are simply deadly on deer.
Quit giving in inch by inch then looking back to lament the mile behind ya and wonder how to preserve those few feet left in front of ya. They'll never stop until they're stopped. That's a fact.

I meant to reply on this post but screwed up. I will try it again Check out my Lyman stuff in the classifieds. Also, Roystu, have you tried the .015 patches . That's what I used on the .535 balls.
By the way, I am in the process of getting rid of quite a few muzzleloading items in th classifieds in the next few days. Horns, pouches, etc. flints and whatever I don't use anymore.

54 roundballs are simply deadly on deer. They are, but for deer-only, I shoot a .45 TC Seneca. I don't need a .54 for deer, I want it for elk, and for elk, I want more than 230 grains of lead. (I don't care how many mountain men were successful with it.) As the bullet situation stands now, a person is better off hunting elk with a .50 with available conicals than a .54 that's ever more limited to round balls. .54 is going the way of the .58. (I like a .58 with PRB, though .. 289 grains .. an additional 60 over what the .54 provides .. is a useful step up.) Tom

This is what I use with my 54 cal barrel. I have a 50 cal barrel also for my Thompson Center Hawken. Killed probably around 20 deer with them. What about Buffalo Bullets? Don't know if they are still available.

I know the OP is looking for a good .54 bullet that doesn't need casting, and I agree they're getting rare. It's a shame. I remember a time when .54 was considered ideal for whitetail. I shot a .54 TC Hawken for decades.
The best option I've found is Lee R.E.A.L. cast lead bullets. I started over a decade ago. I bought a Lee bottom pour pot and the mold and found some $1/lb lead and went for it. It wasn't a hard skill to master, and for the first few years I spent less than an hour a year casting up enough balls for the next year. In a couple of seasons, I paid for the investment with the per round savings over shooting CVA Powerbelts.
I next started casting .50 R.E.A.L. for my sons' smokepoles and after that, I just kept going. I'm now shooting a bunch of pistols and centerfire rifles with cast lead as well.
My latest casting project: Lee R.E.A.L. 50 cals out of an inline ML. I'm getting Minute-of-Deer accuracy at 100 yards and I'm gradually shrinking the group.

No Excuses bullets Sir, call the guy and tell him what you want, he'll mail em to you with a bill inside, just send him a check, a hell of a guy to do business with, and his bullets are effective, load easy and are very ACCURATE.

Track of the Wolf. They have 2 different lead conicals in .54 caliber.
My 54 shoots patched round balls very well. 1" groups at 50 yards with iron sights, which is good considering I can really see good with my right eye, so that 1" is mostly me!
I'm sure there are other options, aslo.
