Real Estate Taxes in Katy Texas with homestead exemption and $ 300,000.00 value would be about $ 7,500.00 to $ 8,000.00.

Texas has some of the highest real estate taxes in the United States

Beats the hell outta NM.

In many areas, county specific, they can up property taxes 5%/year, automatically.

Example:
Northwest of Tyler, Hideaway Lakes

Just went and pulled the stub to correct this-

My shops, barn and sheds are over the property line on my family's stub assessment.

Wow! I thought we were ridiculously high here but you beat us.

Our house is valued at $625,000 and we pay right around $5,000 a year in property taxes. We don’t have a state income tax but the sales tax here is 8.5% and higher in other areas around us.

$5,000 on a $240,000 assessment is crazy high.

Washington is 30th, Texas is 2nd in real estate taxes.

Washington is 4th in sales tax, Texas is 12th.

Neither has income tax.

Yes, that was a part of my question. How do your taxes compare to your ACTUAL value?

I could probably sell the palace for around $200k.

Taxes are about $2400.

Nine years ago we paid $90k and taxes were $1200 year.

State income tax as well.

(Montana)

Current appraised value(according to the state) is $160k.

Mines about $14k/year (~2.8%)... gotta build them dam $72MM high school football stadiums! mad I’m in Katy as well (Houston suburb).

But I’m (slightly) better off than being in a state with income tax.

Always said, I need a tiny shack for my permanent retirement residence here, then a “vacation” home in NW Arkansas.

I can play this game! We have a $250,000 house in upstate New York and also own about 60 acres of vacant farmland in a neighboring town. Property taxes last year totaled $10,300. Income taxes high, sales tax, fees, all high.

Democrats took over the Senate in January, now the Governor, Senate and Assembly are all dominated by NYC Democrat’s. They just passed more gun control and promised still more. Plans for more spending programs are in the works including “free” health insurance for everyone.

Population in upstate has plummeted as everyone who can bails out.

At least the weather sucks.
