Looking to rebarrel an 84L. I’m wanting a slight larger diameter from the end of the forearm to the muzzle around .615-620. I’m wanting to with s Lilja barrel if I can. Going by their website they only have MOD versions for the 84M and 8400 http://riflebarrels.com/factory-contours/

Has anyone had a MOD 84L done by them?

Thanks

If you call them - last time I did, I actually spoke with Dan - you'll find that they have many custom profile programs that aren't listed. All the barrel sources seem to have remained consistently busy over the last ten years concentrating - understandably - more on standard barrel production than custom work; in my opinion, I think Lilja (and from what I've read from others, Pac-Nor) are a little more versatile regarding custom work. By default, I tend towards cut-rifled barrels, but I have a Lilja 3-groove, 11-twist sporter 308 that shoots very well and very clean with all powders tested. I would buy another in a heartbeat.

There are a lot of guys here with that profile, I believe one of the members had them set it up.

I have a 1:8 .277 Lilja in the standard 84L profile and it's a hammer w/150LRAB's. Can't imagine more meat in the bbl would make it shoot worse.......

I had 2 84ls rebarreled last year by pacnor. 9.3x62 and 6.5x55 had both finished at .620. Both great to carry, one thumps pretty good!

Ok great I was hoping they had more profiles than listed on their page. What's the benefit of a 3 groove barrel?

I don't know of any other than possibly less bullet deformity and friction but I have no basis to offer an educated opinion - when I bought mine, I was looking for something available in a lighter contour and Dan had it on hand and ready to ship. It shoots right along side with my Bartlein and Rock Creek barreled rifles.

Chiro,
Just call Lilja. I’m not aware of anyone posting about a modified 84L profile here but it wasn’t too long ago that a poster had them create the modified 8400 and it wasn’t much $ to have them add the contour - under $100 IIRC.
