'Fire Folks;
Good evening one and all, I trust those of you joining in this visual feast from northern parts are keeping warm enough as of late.

Thanks to one and all for your contributions, I very much appreciate each and every one - it's truly good to see and hearkens back to some of the 'Fire of old. Well done all.

These guys are relatively rare out here, one has to look in big shale slides up near the alpine to see them. They put up hay in summer and store it for winter feed, not really hibernating but feeding through the long mountain winter.

While you have to take my word for it, this guy just snagged lunch and was giving us the eye while we tried to get some shots of him.
[Linked Image]

It was early September in the morning with a light layer of ice on the puddles on the mountain - yet here was this guy, who the girls labeled a "Battle Toad" as he must have been tough to be hiking about in that cold.
[Linked Image]

Mom and a single calf up where I chase mulies and whitetail - this is in summer so I was on a scouting trip.
[Linked Image]

Early September again - which is super late for Spruce Grouse chicks this small. What you can't see is that my daughter who snapped the photo has her boot toe just so out of the shot. We were stalking the old lady and a couple more chicks when she looked back at me wide eyed and pointed between her feet before snapping the photo.

Mom grouse we were following.

Thanks again all.

Part Second;
We'd just moved on from the grouse mom and chicks when we spotted this cow moose and put the stalk on her. She turned and gave us "the look" and I says to daughter, "if she comes, we run" She starts giggling and says, "I'll open the truck for you and be waiting inside long, LONG before you get there." laugh

We usually have at least a pair of fawns born at our place every spring. This was that year's yard twins.
[Linked Image]

This guy was eating kinnickinnick the same morning as the big old black bear I posted earlier. I felt better sneaking close to him...
[Linked Image]

These guys nest up in some of the higher creeks and rivers. I think they're about as nice a looking duck as we have out here.
[Linked Image]

The goat in the center isn't zoomed in on purpose - I was trying to show the country these chaps hang out in. It's really crazy sometimes where they'll just saunter about.
[Linked Image]

I commute along a lake and often see these guys swimming, but not so often up where I can get a shot of them, though it was early and a bit blurred in the low light.
[Linked Image]

Thanks again and all the best to you all.

Dwayne

Same thing here. I had to zoom in once just to see a tiny white spot, but the second picture is of the same cliff wall.

There's no way to safely get to where they hang out sometimes. Really a neat animal.

Then sometimes they hang out in a wee bit easier country

Pretty sure hunting has minimal impact on snowcocks. The outfitter I work for has pretty good luck finding 'em. Me, not so much.

Outstanding pics!
