hasbeen's thread, has me wondering, how many of us have heart disease, and how many have had a heart attack?

I've been treating heart disease since 1999, one stint. I've been lucky, so far.

2011 (age 59) and 2014 - three stints total - so far so good. Still have seven lives to go! grin Just came back from the cardiologist. He said everything looks good, (I say, knock on wood)

A friend claims to have had 16 stents installed. When he asked the doctors what next they told him be doing things that he’s always wanted to do but haven’t. He’s taken their advice.

If we are above 50, it’s pretty certain we have some degree of heart deterioration.

Yeah, depending on genetics and lifestyle.

One thing about heart attacks...survivors walk away with one of two attitudes. Either, "I'm REALLY gonna take care of myself now" or "I've only got one life to live...let's get it over with.".

I had a minor heart attack in April of 2013. I was 46 then. They had to put in a stent. I had a 98 percent blockage. I was very lucky it wasn't worse than it was. I have been doing my best to eat properly, take my medicine, and exercise. At first I was on 5 different medicines. Now I am down to one Plavix and one aspirin a day.

I have been engaged in cardio intensive activities all my life. 3 years ago I was diagnosed w/ a 95% blocked carotid artery and the surgeon said that I was a rare person that didn't suffer a stroke from that condition. I felt completely healthy at that time. I was lucky that a sharp M.D. caught it and I will never miss a physical or assume that I am bulletproof again. Every good day is a gift that should not be taken for granted.

clearly the medical examiner get's it right nearly everytime. that is, x individual passed from a heart failure.

when the ticker stops, that's the end of the road.

when the heart fails, not much else is important.

so, what caused death? his heart failed.

how to re-train a heart to take better care of it's self?

if a heart has x amounts of "beats" built in, then what next after the beats are exhausted?

My numbers were flawless and i maxed out the stress EKGs annually. My doc diagnose the blocked aretery via a stethoscope on my neck. Many physicians in this era of medicine depend on the science and have forgotten the art.

I'm 68 and no heart attacks but I have heart disease. One stent, and they had to drill out the artery as it was calcified. That artery was 90% blocked and I supposedly have two others that are only partially blocked. I've never had my carotid artery checked but I believe that's a good thing to do, and am going to ask my cardiologist about it soon. Seems to me they have to run a camera around in your heart to get a true story. Not sure how that whole thing works.

How did they catch it if you were asymptomatic ?

Old school stethoscope.
Always ask for that.
