I love corn based ethanol. After it's been in a new, charred oak barrel for a few years that is.

Put me down for a positive on ethanol.
When they still hauled it to the loading rack in trucks, they would unload right beside where I loaded gas.
It smells good. One positive.
Now they have a train siding, and ship it cheaper.
Why was it at the loading rack instead of a refinery. Where they could blend it and ship the finished product?
It never, ever, under any circumstances goes through the pipeline. The pipeline will absolutely not ship it.
They don't want to cause corrosion in the lines.

I ran 100% gas vs E10 ethanol gas in my car and checked highway mileage once out of curiosity. The higher price of 100% gas (about a 10-20% premium) didn't justify the tiny mileage increase (less than 5%) over regular. I always run 100% gas in my small engines. Most of them run poorly on regular gas, and using 100% beats cleaning carburetors more frequently.

Rapid City ,SD where I live regular unleaded (0 ethanol) costs 20 cents a gal more than 10% ethanol junk gas so why run trouble prone cheap crap and yeah I make better mileage on 85 octane regular unleaded than the 10 % ethanol 86 octane gas.. MB

But maybe costly repairs down the road would justify the 100% gas. I'm going to give the 0% ethanol a try for a couple of months, and will give a report on the results. It will not be a long enough trial for maintenance costs, but mileage comparison will be accurate.

It's a catch 22. There's a gas station down the road that I can buy straight gasoline and I use it whenever I can. Traveling it's difficult to find fuel that doesn't have ethanol. So it's hard to make much of a case. I certainly prefer to use it in small engines. When traveling you get what you get.

We do not use ethanol in any of our engines.

You should never run ethanol in a small engine. Ever.
91 octane pure gas only.

Well, I can't get pure gas/100% gas here in the great state of Massachusetts at anywhere near a sane price . That said, I have a 25 year old snow blower, 15 year old lawn mower, 12 year old 225 Mercury Optimax outboard. Knock on wood, all running fine without any major repairs. They all get 87 octane 10% ethanol from brand name stations, with fuel stabilizer, stabil, startron, lucus, that I add to the gas. I would use 100% if I could..... I also believe it is up to the small engine builders to get with the times. Build engines that will run on E10-15 Ethanol. It ain't going away any time soon.

I 've been running the carb dry on outboard motors for thirty years if it's not going to be used for a while.

E10-15 gets used in the truck, as it's a daily driver. I use pure gas for everything else, especially my fancy huffing rag.

I think its worth it for small engines. For cars and trucks, not so much.
