I have to find another credit card. I have been with Cabela’s longer than I can remember but no more. Capitol One has lost 2 payments in 4 months and are not taking interest and penaty off this time. Cabelas never lost one of my payments. Anyway, would appreciate some input. I have American Express but want a Visa card as well.

Thanks.

I see...well that's too bad. When this whole online bill pay stuff came about, I was skeptical and just kept sending in a check with the paper statement. But yet I would continue to buy goods online with cc all the time. So now I pay the bill online and don't have to worry about that little envelope being misplaced on its 'cross country journey.

The point is that in all the 15 years or so I had Cabela.s cards I never had a lost payment. I have had twice in the 4 months since Capital One took over. The first time it was found at their Nebraska office. This time it has not shown up. I do online banking with Billpay. Out of the thousands of Checks I have sent with Billpay only two have been lost. Both of these to Capital One. I won’t change the way I bank but I will change the credit card company that is having so much trouble with my payments.

Thanks.

I'm considering a Costco card. I got an email from them the other day and you get 4% cash back on gas purchases and since they average $.20 per gallon cheaper than any where else, that is where I fill up.

It's a racket for sure but wth.

Amazon Visa run by Chase bank. You get 1% and 2% back on purchases. 3% on purchases at Amazon. Redeem your points on Amazon when you purchase something. Got a 'free' $45 water hose last summer. Was skeptical about getting it at first but no problems so far. And you get $50 to spend on Amazon when approved.

I don't think it is the best deal, but I use Chase Amazon Visa. I use it for my bills and cycle just about all of my expenses through it. So it is nice to see expenses on one sheet of paper. I get back at least 1%, and more on other stuff, so I get a reasonable payback. There is no annual fee. I use the payback point to buy treats for my daughter in college, and small stuff like free knives and flashlights. Amazon and Chase never gave me any hassles. I never paid a dime in interest in 15 years.

go to nerdwallet.com which is a site that helps you compare cards to suit your needs and circumstances.

You still mail checks? Why not just pay by electronic funds transfer? It's instant, secure, and hassle free.

I see from your avatar you're a Navy vet. First, thank you for your service. Second, Navy Federal Credit Union was the most highly rated card for a number of years - I haven't checked lately, but I'm sure they're in the running. With good credit, the APR is 8.24% or you can choose cash back or a hybrid of the two. Hope this helps.

Citi Double Cash gives you 2% cash back, across the board. None of that 1% here, 2% there, or 3% sometimes BS.

Paying in full every month is clearly the best approach, but HOW to pay it is the original poster's problem. He's using the US Postal Orifice, into which several payments have vanished. And he's therefore up the orifice.

Pick the card that gives you your choice of miles, cash back, low interest, or whatever. Then pay it every month by secure digital transfer. If you're extra paranoid, set up a separate unlinked checking account to pay only that card, and transfer money into that account when you make your card payment.

Life without a credit card is possible, but it's harder. Especially when you travel internationally. I don't put much value in all the gimmicks, miles and paybacks. If you see how much of that actually gets used, it's pretty low. I'll take it, but it's not significant enough to make a difference. That said, I have a cousin that puts all his business expenses on his miles card, and he and his wife travel all over the world two or three times a year. But he runs a multi million $ outfit.

The best card is the one that's linked to your checking account and gets automatically paid off every month. That's how I have the Costco card set up. It's my travel card.

We currently have three different cash back cards and pay the balances off each month. I recheck every year to find the best combo of rewards and cash back.

Amazon Prime Chase Visa if you are big Amazon shopper (5% back on amazon purchases, credited monthly to your amazon account). My credit union Mastercard also has a 2% cashback on everything with no annual fee. I run most of my business charges through the credit union card. I always pay off the bill every month, so I'm not sure about the interest rates on charges.

My wife and I use the Costco card and like it especially for the gas discount. It gets paid off every month via the phone/bank acct.

Works great We also use the NEA Visa Card but it doesn't pay back in cash, but it works good for Airline flights etc.

I had a Cabela's, and abused it---don't have it anymore mad

Costco is about the best card out there all around if you use it correctly in combo with your membership. Where else can you get 6% back on gas purchases. 4% on ALL Costco purchases. 5% for travel purchased thru Costco, 3% other travel. 3% on all restaruants/eateries.

I had a Cabela’s Visa for several years and used it exclusively. I knew it was time for a change when Bass Pro killed Cabela’s. I never activated the replacement Master Card from Capital One. I looked at several cards and posted a thread just like this here at the campfire. In the end, I decided to keep it simple and use the Visa from my bank. I bank with US Bank and they have always treated me right. The only thing that is a pain about their cash back card is remembering to log on and choose your categories every quarter. The good part is that i get cash that I can use anywhere - no points, no miles, etc. paying the balance each month is a simple online banking transfer from my checking account.

You are making a smart move in ditching Capital One. Personally, I would never willingly do business with BoA, Citi, or Wells Fargo.

I use Chase and Capital One. I pay the balance as soon as I can and I never wait until the end of the month. No issues with either company. I don't like to owe anybody anything.

I have saved hundreds of dollars is postage and checks over they years by paying online with Chase. Never once had an issue with either of them.

I use the Citi double cash to pay my health insurance premiums. 2% on the $9200 is better than cutting the check directly to the health insurance company.

Visa card through Fidelity. 2% cash back to checking account on everything purchased. I pay just about everything with it including big ones like annual home and car insurance. The 2% cash back adds up significantly over a year’s time.

From a friend who works in that security arena, they've been doing it for a lot longer than they've ever admitted to. Fact is, you can't get a straight answer out of them now about it.
