Sitting here in the early morning hours waiting for the coffee shop to open. Been dragging through the 'net when I remembered Winchester Splatter Proof rimfire gallery cartridges. Looked it up and ,by god, found an auction where a box, and only the box, for such cartridges sold for $819. Lord knows how many of them boxes I threw away as a kid. Best I recall they sold for about 15cents a box. Wheren't very accurate beyond about 20 feet but that was good enough for tin cans.

I ran a rifle range at a YMCA camp back in the '60's and we shot Remington's version of that same ammo, accuracy was very good as I recall. I've been around guns and ammo for more than 50 yrs. and I have never seen Winchester Spatter Proof ammo so the auction price does not surprise me.

IIRC, I believe the bullets in those gallery cartridges were made of carbon. They would turn to dust upon impact.

I remember the old Winchester gallery .22's as well. Model 62...

Good grief! I've got about 1500 rounds of the gallery shorts in 500 round bulk packs. Old.

By current auction prices, that's somewhere north of $12,000.

I wouldn't sell them all at once. You flood the market, the collectable value will drop like a rock.
