Found a BNIP Anderson stripped lower for a steal. Now i need an upper. Prefer a flat top. No iron sights. 20-22" barrel. Who makes a quality one that doesnt cost an arm and a leg? Dont really care about a brake/flash hider either

Just make sure you get a good barrel - 7 or 8 twist.

This is a nice one from PSA. I have the same one, but with a stainless steel barrel. Nice full floating forend, pretty light weight, rifle length gas system. Also have a 20" Stag rifle kit on an Anderson stripped lower and a Stag Model 6 with 24" heavy stainless barrel. I prefer the 18" handling qualities.

Stainless and the FN CHF barrels are where it's at with PSA.

What is wrong with Model 1 sales, I purchased an upper from them and some of my hand loads shoot groups under two inches at 400 yds.

Model 1 sales has had parts quality issues over the years, I first dealt with them in the mid-90s - you have to know what you are getting from them.

I've received - and witnessed other purchasers getting - reject parts that were good quantity in appearance, but had QC issues in alignment, drill and tapping, or dimensions not correct.

However, most of their target uppers seem to group pretty well for a non-precision company from what I have seen.

But it's not just groups - does the upper function like it should? No jams, correct ejection, etc...

In fairness - I did look at some of their uppers a couple years ago - and they seemed correct, but I wouldn't go that route again based on my experience - YMMV.

Their past business model was low bidder items that may / may not meet specification. Personally I would not order from them. Maybe they have changed, but they did not have issues selling substandard stuff in the past.

In the 80s they had some issues, not sure about 90s, but for what you pay these days, my nephew has had good luck.

Not 2 inches at 400 yards which is what my match guns do and they ain't model one. LOL.

Freddy needs to shoot the challenge!

I don't have photobucket or what ever is needed to join the challenge. I purchased an upper from model 1 about a year and a half ago, it is a match/varmint upper, Shaw 24 inch barrel, blued and fluted, have not had any issues so far, have about 1200 rounds through it so far.

I had an M1S about 15 years ago. 9 twist barrel, rough as a cob, would only shoot 69s. 300 yd & under scores were always a couple points and a couple Xs less than with a White Oak. When it died it truly was a stake.

If that was at me, I did it once open sights, with crappy groups. LOL. Sooner or later its possible I'll have fun again.
