FWIW, found my way to the range this past Monday morning with two (2) Glocks, a chronograph and a box of recent production Winchester Ranger RA9TA 9mm 127 grain +P+. Results follow (5 shot average):

1. Glock 19 gen4; Average velocity 1,260 fps.

2. Glock 17 gen3; Average velocity 1,278 fps.

Both pistols were box stock, except that each had Trijicon HD night sights installed.

Both fed, fired and ejected with no issues.

From what I have read the sights dont have anything to do with velocities. From my understanding.

I understand the type of sights one has on their handgun will not affect velocity. Am I wrong on that?

Good info, thanks for sharing.

That's nice when ammo meets advertised velocity.

Not really. I had an uncle that has long since succumbed due to death that had a friend that had a had a brother that had a grand dad that had a daughter that lived several states away that worked in the town brothel that started that piece of information.
So I have just adopted the information too.
That is where I got it. Any truth to it?

Glockdoofus,

Your posts in this thread have been disrespectful. I'm sure you don't care, but it needed to be said. I hope that the rest of your day goes better.

Winchestermodel70,

Thank you for posting real-world velocities, obtained from pistols that are stock--except for the mods that don't affect the velocities. I appreciate you taking the time.

Carry on.

Not bad and certainly on par with some watered-down 357 ammo we were seeing a few years ago. I am impressed.

Closer to 38 super on the light side.

My sigs 4 inch run around 1400 for that weight.

most 9s are hampered with magazine seating depth. Using a good barrel in 1911, 38 super mags and possibly a throat reamer from Brownells, and a COL the same as a super, mosts 9s will make super.

I would just get a 10MM and be done with it. KISS principal Ive been told about. How would it compare to a 1911 in 10MM. Would it be as powerful?

I heard that a 10mm is 1mm larger and isn’t a 9mm. Am I right.
