Good evening,
We understand some of our followers are upset with Benchmade knives because of a recent post we put out. The post did not give everyone the full story
on why the guns were required to be destroyed.
We receive guns that are turned in from community members that they no longer want the guns and want them destroyed. We also have guns that are
evidence and when a case is adjudicated the guns are ordered by the court to be destroyed.
These guns were required to be destroyed. We reached out to Benchmade to do us a favor at our request. Benchmade is a strong supporter of law
enforcement and the Oregon City community. We were present when the guns were cut and we took them for final destruction.
We apologize for not informing everyone on the initial post. Benchmade is an excellent company and we urge everyone that had said they no longer support
Benchmade to reconsider once they have all the information. Again, we apologize for not informing everyone with our recent post.
Respectfully,
Chief Jim Band and Mayor Dan Holladay

I do not think a "no thank you" was an option!

1. All benchmades are over-priced IMO, and most are over-weight, to boot. Had one; past tense.

2. So the police couldn’t run their own chopsaw, picked up for cheap at the local pawn shop. Further, reportedly in a small town where a handful of people might still possess a manual skill or two. Instead, an anti-gun local knifemaker jumped at the oppprtunity. The optics, as they say, turned out poorly.

3. The solution to crime, particularly violent crime, isn’t putting inanimate objects thru a chop saw or whatever. THAT is what gets my blood pressure up.

I don't give a schit if they chop up some old chitty guns, even if it is kinda dumb. If I lived there I'd for sure push to have them sold and bank the proceeds instead.

The shocking part is someone thought it a good idea to post it on social media. I don't know what Benchmade thought was gonna happen. If they truly thought this was gonna turn out well for them, I'm guessing they eat pudding with a rubber spoon.

Pretty hilarious really.

What they say now about the knife fiasco doesn't matter, they did this, then told the world about it, and thought it was a good idea at the time.

Also they never attempted to be balanced with political donations

Spot on.

Everyone wonders why Benchmade's customer base was upset after posting all that on social media?

It would be like posting pictures dead wolves on a wolf hugger social page, then wondering why the natives get triggered...

Like I said earlier... The only people that get their rocks off on pictures of guns being destroyed by police are the radical Left gun grabbers.

Bad thing for them for this to get out.

I did some of the same for the cop shop in a small town near here.

Every thing with rifling and parts with a serial number got cut with a torch.

Several were shotguns and a few rifles the rest were pistols.

The cases had been over for at least 10-20 years and they each had to be signed off by the county judge.
A cutting torch was used on steel and a 20 lb.hammer for the others.

I made no money for this job but got to keep all of the parts.

The LT.asked me when i was taking apart an old pistol if it hurt my feelings to do it,i told him no because it was not mine.

Not all cop shops have the policy of selling these items,so it is what it is.

In one of the photos it looks like they were using a plasma torch.

Now bitch away.

The police department posted the information as a kind of thanks to Benchmade.

Court ordered. That means the had to be cut up not rebuilt. It is the law, the OCPD did not have a choice. Benchmade could have said no but the guns would still have been cut up. Read to statement from OCPD on their facebook page. I really do not know any way to make clearer to you.
