hello every one
I just bought a new left handed Sako hunter 300 win mag. I'm going to pick it up soon! I have been looking for a scope for that rifle and I have narrowed it down to a Leupold vx5 2-10 or 3-15 with the illuminated reticle. From what I have read on this forum its a good scope in the same league with Swarovski and Zeiss but from what I've seen online the Sako rifles sometimes have ejection problems with 30mm tube. Any one got any hands on experiance with that combo.

There’s no parallax adjustment on the 2-10 so you should be fine. But the ejection issue is a “sometimes” who can say. A smith might have to work on the extractor to get what you want, but that could be the case with any rifle. No way to know unless you try.

Optically they are both bright and lightweight. Decent scopes if you buy right.

I have a Sako 85 Grizzly in 8x57 with a VX 5 illuminated reticle and I have no ejection issues. The rings are Optilock one piece low 30 mm.
The scope seems to have brightness and quality of image on par with my Swarovski Z3. At least that’s the way my eyes see it. 😎

OP reported internet talk of ejection issues. Who knows. I assume cases are being ejected at angle that interferes with a large windage knob (which sako or a good Smith could fix). With 2-10 vx5 the OP shouldn’t have issues since he’s a lefty and there’s no knob on left side. I would run whatever scope I wanted and see if there was a problem first.

Left handed rifles are a PITA. Stay away from the parallax knob models and you are fine though. I have a VX5 and it has been a good scope so far.

The 3-15 sucks on 15 power, your heart beats, then the entire image disappears, too touchy. In reality it is a 3-12 scope.

My image is still there at 15.

I havent had extraction issues on the 6 or 7 Ive owned. A couple I have are mounted with both the scopes you mention(2-12, 3-15). I like both so I let the use of the rifle dictate which scope goes where.

I just recently put a vx5 on my rem 700 25.06. I hunt deer and coyotes so i don't do any dialing once I get it set. I have to say I'm very impressed and pleased with this vx5 so much that I bought a second one and put on my daughter's .260. It tracked great when I set it up and I had the rifle set in just a few shots. The glass is excellent, clear and bright. The only complaint I have would be that I wish the large post in the duplex went closer to the center like the vx3i that I have but it's not a problem what so ever, just a personal preference. I can deal with the duplex and have no regrets on the purchase, I love the scope. Mike

Thanks for the good advice and pics you guys are great! One thing I might do if the gun shop dose not mind is bring a snap cap and try cycling it with the scope on it. On another note in the area I hunt I can can get snap shots up close and personal or 450 yards in a swamp or little lake, id like to go with a 3-15 but I'm not sure if 3 to much for those up close shots.

VX6 2-12 is your Huckleberry. Probably my favorite all around hunting scope to date. Heres a little trick, if you get a firedot model and something present itself at extremely close range, just keep both eyes open and superimpose the red dot.

I'm exaggerating a little bit, but it is touchy

I have 3 VX5 hd's and do not have a problem at all shooting at 15 power at all. I had some scopes with 12 power and liked the 15 so much I sold them and then got more VX 5's with the 15x
