Before the gun was completely destroyed the barrel was cut to 10 or 12 inches. Seems I read somewhere that is is illegal to cut a shotgun barrel to under 18", and here they do it on video.

By state law, Iowa is required to destroy all confiscated firearms (except DNR) that are no longer needed or wanted. The State lab and gun vault is about one mile from a large John Deere plant in Iowa. After the gun is determined to be scrap and no longer needed as evidence, The guns are shipped to the John Deer plant for destruction. I assume John Deere uses the steel in making their products or it's sold as scrap. If you are going to be upset with Benchmade for destroying some firearms at the direction of the local police, be upset with John Deere as well for doing as the State asks. I don't like it. I'm pretty sure the State of Iowa could sell some of those guns and put the money back into the budget, but I'm not holding my breath. Interesting. My uncle was a fed and a gun nut. He used to strip K-frames of any and all parts before sending the frames out to be destroyed. He ended up with a supervisor that made him stop doing that because it wasn't in the "spirit" or "intent" of the destruction. My son's 14 wears some of those parts today and I still have a box full of K-frame parts as my uncle's sons didn't grow up to be gun queers like myself. Moral of this story is that a lot of these self righteous dick heads flat out love to cut up guns. I'll never understand why.
