Working on getting an old 1890 .22 WRF back in firing condition. The bore needs relined; then on the barrel I need to have the dovetail rebuilt and recut (holds the front ring for the magazine tube). In my research the following names came up as possibles to contact:

Redman's
PISCO
Nu-Line

Anyone have any experience with these companies or maybe another company I should contact?

Yep. Capable, honest, and quick turnaround.

I gotta ask: "relining" the barrel? Was it lined once before and it needs it again, or will you be lining the original bore?

Sticking with the original chambering?

Lining the bore and sticking with original chambering. Just always seen it referenced at relining.

Customer: I need a hot water heater.

Plumber: Why would you want to heat hot water?

I used Redman, but have heard good things about John Taylor.

Anybody with a lathe and some common sense can do it. The expense comes in via a long piloted drill bit to drill out the old bore, and the cost of the liner. Guys I know who've done it (skilled hobbyists) all used TJ Liners and can't say enough good about them.

TFF. Biggest oxymoron of all time I think.

Thanks guys. I agree about the doing it yourself part, but I don't have access to the machinery necessary along with chamber reamer, etc. And since I need the dovetail rebuilt, figure might as well send it off to get done in one fell swoop.

Sometimes that's best, even though I'm an inveterate do-it-yourselfer.

PIcs when done? Do you have a stash of .22WRF ammo?

I'm a DIY guy also, but not with something like this. Don't have ammo, but CCI makes 22 WRF specifically for 1890/1906 models. It's not cheap but I won't be shooting a lot of it either. I will definitely post pics. It's not the prettiest gun, but will be nice to have something else to plink with. Also waiting for me to work on are a 1901 10 ga. and 1897 12 ga.

As an aside, does anyone have John Taylor's email? I can't get the link to work that's on his website.

Have made contact with John. Another one or two people I want to contact before deciding.

Appreciate the assistance.

Sent it off yesterday to John. He's about 4-6 months out currently. Will post pics when all completed. It won't be the prettiest gun, but I just want a good working, shootable rifle.

That will give me time to work on my other 'fixer-upper' gun projects.
