I am going to have a pinned/welded muzzle device of some type put on a AR 5.56x45 so I end up with a 16" over all barrel length. This will be a truck/trip/camper/home defense gun. I doubt it will ever be needed past 200 yards. So what one is the best compromise for a muzzle device for muzzle flash/blast and recoil control?

Surefire Warcomp CT is without peer for that. Excellent FH, very good compensator.

Some interesting reading, FWIW.

There are links in the article to muzzle break / comp testing as well.

On my coyote gun I put a linear compensator on after using an aggressive brake one hunt. I nearly had blood coming out of my ear after shooting at a dog without ear pro. They are a mixed blessing.

I'd MUCH rather have a real barrel,at 16"...assuming I'd eever lost a bet that big.

Pass the 18" LW contour(s) and Middy Gas as a fhuqking MINIMUM.

Hint.................

Yep.

Screw the pinned and welded, stick with a true 16+ or go pistol.

There's nothing I can do with a pinned 14.5" than I can't do with a straight 16"......................even getting in & out of vehicles. Just sayin' & w/o all the hassle.
