Up for sale is a win 71, with early long tang stock, bolt peep, a deluxe model with checkering ... the one everyone wants. The long tang and the bolt peep did not last long into the production years of the model 71. 71's are known for carrying great and pointing like a well balanced shotgun. This one has not been abused. There are no gouges, chips, or cracks in the stock, only a few minor scratches picked up over its 82 year hunting history. You can see the pattern of blue wear where the early owner's hand would have carried the 71. No rust or pitting, original finish on the wood and metal. Finish wear shows as expected on this fine old warrior, detailed in the pics below. Bore is excellent and it functions as it should. A good honest gun. 348 win ammo is generally available from Buffalo Bore, Win silver tips, Hornady FTX, on line, if not locally. New empty brass as well. Most of my brass and new ammo came from here on the fire. 200g, 225g and 250g bullets are popular for deer, elk, moose, and bear. This was my first 71 and I've had it about 5 yrs. My son liked it but no way was I giving up my 71. Found him a refinished, pad added, short tang 71 to climb trees with, and in the process located a high condition 71 with King red bead reflector sight, as seen mostly on S&W's handguns from the 30's and 40's. I am keeping these latter two 71's, so this one has to go. I don't ever see myself without a Win 71. Shipped and insured for $1,975.00. 3 day inspection period, full purchase price refunded on a return in same condition. Buyer pays shipping/insurance both ways on a return. Ships to C&R or FFL dealer. FTF in SC ok. thanks for looking Charlie

Just curious, but can you adjust that bolt peep for windage?
Beautiful rifle and great price.

Yes, there is a screw that runs the sight right/left for windage. BTW, these sights go for $500 and up IF you can find one. thanks for the question and compliment. Just noticed the tag I had on this at local gunshow for $2200, but I can get my money out of it shipped for $1975.00 here on the fire.
I offered this rifle to a couple fire members thru PM's, prior to posting it in the classifieds. Kinda bass ackwards i know, but ... first "I'll take it" time stamp via posting here/email/PM wins the gun.

I have some mint 71s, but the amount of finish and honest wear from actual use that your rifle appears to show is in my mind is more desirable and the best looking! I wish I could justify buying another, because I’d be happy to own this one. Bump for my favorite rifle!

bore is excellent. Perfect if you will. No issues. I wish I could tell you how it shoots, but my eyes see two bullseyes at anything past 25 yrds. I have shot factory win silvertips 200g and woodleigh 250g reloads, as well as 200 gr cast lead bullets. The woodleighs seem to group better, but at 25 yds its hard to tell.
