Local gun classified board a lot of guys have trade only, not interested in selling. Person to person sales in this state don't require any paperwork. What is the upside to this? Asked a guy a few minutes ago about a cash price, offered what it would take to buy one of the guns he had listed as trade interests, got [bleep] with me and said "trades only!". Seems like a dumbass way of trying to move something.
Theyre creepy bastards that are feeling you out. If all goes right, yall strike up a confidence and next thing you know youre at his house, in his cistern being fattened up so he can make a ladysuit out of you.
I am constantly amazed at the large number of adults who have very little idea of what cash represents and how it works.
Seems these boards are full of new gun owners that have very little experience or knowledge. Lot of "selling my new build" which is a factory gun with a scope mounted, a sling, possibly a bipod and a $9.99 gun case.

That trade stuff is looking for a needle in a haystack. One guy looking for something someone doesn’t want that’s worth more than he has that he doesn’t want. And it’s usually crap on both sides.
Don’t know that I’ve ever had a successful transaction like that.

Some folks may be uncomfortable coming up with an exact dollar value of what they have, but could be more comfortable deciding it's worth about the same (to them at least?) as another gun. Not sure why this would be a mystery. A couple minutes on GunBroker and you can figure the going rate for almost anything, but some people won't or can't do that.
Some folks think their stuff is worth more as a trade vs cash. Never could figure that one out.
Yeah, that one chaps my azz, too. A $500 gun is a $500 gun, whether you buy it, or trade for it. Most will justify it as a way to make up for them taking something that they don't REALLY want, but will take for the extra profit. If someone offers to trade me something that I have no need/want for, I simply tell them no. However, you'd be surprised at the number of people, at least around here, that expect you to take in trade ANYTHING that they have on hand! I've been offered goats, horses, a 30 year old box van, musical instruments, game consoles, ancient computers, old beater guns that I couldn't sell in 20 years, and, my favorite, a 12 foot Python with all accessories..............
While it's true that all liberals are crazy people, not all crazy people are liberals.
