So for Christmas a few years back the MIL bought 3 of the kids a kayak. The were awesome for the first two times they all used em. Now I have to store 4 fuggin kayaks all year round because nobody uses them. But I can't sell the damn things because "grandma bought them. We can sell a gift from Grandma."

I say "the fugg we can't!!!"

If they don't get used this July when the ice comes off the lake they're not going to be tied down on the trailer very well and someone will have 4 very nice, gently used but road scuffed kayaks...for free!!

Sometimes when the wife wants something, and you know it's a horrible idea, you buy it anyways.

I bought my wife a Perception Rhythm 11' and she used it a couple of years, but she always had some problems getting in and out. She tried my Perception Islander 11' and she found it easier to get in and out. For reference, she is 5' 10" and 150 lbs.

After a couple of hours on the lake, she said I want it. No, no, no, that is mine. A friend has a Perception Prodigy 10 and I encouraged her to try it out. Whew! She liked it, so I bought her one.

Garage sale kayak for $60, fiberglass, quite light weight. Clearance paddle, etc. Gets me away from the madding crowd. The rod and reel each cost more than this kayak. The line and leader probably cost as much. Sockeye.

If you have a storage or hauling limitation, take a look at inflatables. The cheap ones are PVC and not that strong so I'd suggest a coated nylon one that will take a lot more abuse. Last year we got a 3 place Sea Eagle. My MIL wanted to be included in the fun so we got the 3 seater but she chickened out and we haven't got her in it yet. However, with 1 or 2 aboard, it's actually easier to paddle than the smaller one.
