Petit's team quit on him, allowing Pete to take the lead.

Stupid ESPN titles that story "peeved pets". Then seeks comment from PETA.

It is too warm for the dogs to go all out. Night running is best for them. It looks like Petit has screwed the pooches two years in a row.

In about the same location as last year apparently. I feel bad for him. Until the dog fight, he was running a great race.

The little moves right now are about trying to time their rests exactly to maximize speed to White Mountain and make the last run in with dogs about to need a break...

Petit just scratched in Shak. Kinda saw that coming when they stated he was heading back to Shak after the unscheduled rest on the sea ice. Too bad. He had another solid run

Just read that and feel for the poor guy. He was doing extremely well.

Things just got real interesting... Dogs are balking and Sneaky Pete decided to see what was what... after a very short rest of 2 hours and 44 minutes he pulled out of Elim. This is the final run to White Mountain and the most critical run of the whole race. He had 45 minutes more rest than Joar but Joar had to go. He could not just let Pete take it.

It is a 46 mile run and both mushers know they cannot do anything other than run it. Pete had to calculate how much rest his dogs HAD to have and at what point the extra time would do Joar's dogs more good than his. With better rested dogs and an all-out assault and lots of luck Pete should get to WM first. They have to rest somewhere along the way, too. It should be real interesting, come morning. Roughly 9:30 tomorrow morning we should know who stands the best chance of winning the race.

Obviously the last 70+ miles after WM is not a total gimme, but it is usually won by the first to WM. If Pete does not add to his lead it will still be a race.

Looks like Jessie has a shot at a better finish this year than last years 7th. For an Alabama boy, he sure knows how to run his dogs.

That's ok, I'll ass shoot a dink.
