First scissortail just yesterday, obviously a male (great pic I know cool )

[Linked Image]

Corroborating evidence, a pair of swallows back at the shooting range (prob'ly still deaf from previous years). There's only one in this pic.

While one swallow does not a summer make, suddenly they are all over, weren't here a week ago.

Can you believe I snapped these pics with my iphone smile

I'll believe it's spring after the next freeze hits and all the blossoms fall off the fruit trees.

Maybe, but it’s purple martins that routinely show up too early and then die. People call those first few martins “scouts” and then when they all starve to death in the cold and they don’t see ‘em anymore they think they “went back south to show the other ones the way”, thats not what actually happens.

Sure sign here: Heard a weird, vaguely familiar noise in the basement. Thinking now what, hope it's not expensive I started for the basement. Sump pump had come on. True story.

It's coming here. My south-facing driveway is either gravel or ass-bustingly slick.

Snow on the roof has compacted down to about two feet in depth so it must be almost summer here. Hope the igloo does not melt. Warm blubber tastes like crap.

When I lived in Texas scissortales were the most fascinating of birds. Wish we had them here. Besides nighthawks (you know summer has arrived) I've grown fond of meadowlarks. And upside down nuthatches, feel like kindred spirits.

Not sure, but I think we got down to about 20 here last cold snap.

I wish we could just get tornado season over with so I can use the pool again.

I remember, in our part of East, Texas, it wasn't spring until the Pecan trees budded.

No photos here, but we had strong winds, big hail, some rain and, now, snow today in the Sacramento Mountains. The winter birds and the turkeys are still here and the first clown-faced nuthatches showed up last week. The plum blossoms are probably going to get nipped again tonight.

I don't think we will see much accumulation, although the highways are always exciting in the shadowy canyons.

You will know when spring has truly sprung, most of the posts will start making sense.

You know it's spring in Texas because all the retards/Texans start telling you it's "too" hot.

Hey we are 80 degrees warmer than last week, but it is still only in the 40s. Saw lots of Robins when it was almost -40. They were cold looking.

Flocks of Swainson’s Hawks will be soaring up the eastern slopes of the Andes on their month-long fast even as we speak, having fattened up on pampas grasshoppers all winter Maybe they’ll pass over Maccu Picu on their way to Podunk, North Dakota . Common nighthawks go clear to Argentina too, but they gotta flap all the way back across the South American rain forest and Central America under their own power.

Likewise flocks of broad-winged hawks will be gathering from Guatemala to Venezuel. Might see all of these passing over at Goliad the end of the month.

Had my feeder up all winter but no winter hummingbirds found it that I saw. The first spring migrant ruby-throat or black-chinned oughtta show up any day
