Wondering if anyone shoots 165 gr spire points in their .300 sav m99's and if so what is your favorite load?Went through some past threads and only found 150 gr info. Seems to me the 165 should be the cat,s meow.

My lucky EG in 300 Savage really prefers heavy bullets, loves 180gr. But I'm not a big fan of the ballistics of a 180gr in 300 Savage when hunting open range. Finally got 165gr Partitions shooting good. Had luck with both Varget (I believe) and IMR4895, couldn't tell you the loads off the top of my head. It was picky though, far more than other 99's I use. I'd stick with 150gr if I was shooting longer distances, but the 165gr was killing stuff dead just fine.

I shot hand loaded 165 grain NP's over 49.5 grains of IMR 4350 in 308 Win for many years and it accounted for a good many dead critters.
Now I just shoot green box 150's in 300 and 308.
I used to make ammo, now I buy it.

I like the idea of Spire Points in the 300. I think the elongated shape of the ogive helps make up for shallow seating in the 300 case. I can’t tell you how they work for a hunting bullet but I suspect they are as good as anything else.
Years ago I had pretty good luck loading bulk packed 165 grain Remington Corlokts. They seemed to work good at 300 velocities but not so well when pushed faster in larger rounds such as the 06.
