Well I took it (Remington 700 CDL) to the range yesterday with just a small variety pack of handloads. Worst day I coulda asked for (shooting wise) gusty shifty winds from 10-25mph, I tried shooting in the lulls of the wind. It shot 51.0 of RL22 with a 115grn NBT at 3.220OAL right into an inch. It also shot 55.0grn of RL17 with an 85grn NBT at 3.165OAL into an inch. I had a couple other loads that put two together and a flier that totally coulda been me with wind. I am going to load 52.0 of RL22 with the same OAL as well as 52.5 of H4831 with the 115grn NBT. I kept the same 55grn charge of RL17 with the 85grn NBT but moved them out to 3.200".

EDIT- no pressure signs with any of the loads.

54.5 H4831 with 100grn SGK 3.175"
55.0 RL17 with 85grn NBT 3.165"
52.0 H4831 with 115grn NBT 3.165"
55grn RL22 with 100grn SGK 3.170"
55.5 RL22 with 100grn SGK 3.200"

No need to reiterate the inherent Sucktitude of a 25-06 and how chamberings of far lesser volume, simply crush it.

Hint................

Yup!

The 25-06 does not have Lawrence's throat, twist, RPM and geometry to make it as a hunting round.

For sure, my parents neighbor spent a lot of his life in Montana. He is a fan of the 25-06 nosler partition, seen truck loads of elk killed with it. No fancy far shots on giant bulls, just using the wind, stalking and putting a round through the ribs of reasonable sized animal and then eating elk. You can always tell the people who do most of their hunting and shooting in front of a computer screen, they usually have 40,000 posts on a forum.

I've worked with H4831 & RL22, but haven't tried RL17 in the 25-06 yet. Your combo of H4831 and the 100 gr Sierra was superbly accurate in one of my old 25-06 rifles, producing groups in the .3's at 100 yards. That was an older Ruger Number One with the heavier varmint barrel.

I've had excellent results using Retumbo with the 115's and H4350 with the 100's.

Nice. That is one of the loads I am going to try again, I had two in one hole with a flier that I am betting was me considering the conditions. Still want to try Retumbo. I shoot 55.5 of RL17 with an 80grn Barnes TTSX for .40 groups in my Weatherby Vanguard S2 25-06.

My 25-06 was made by a pretty good Elk hunter, Iver Henriksen. It’s marked 25 Niedner. I’ve never killed an elk, but I’m sure the 25-06 will do the trick with a well made bullet and good shot placement.
