I sure wish we could drive on the beaches in CA, only a few places here allow it.

from what i've been able to find out, might be one tournament in sept. haven't found out a date , their web site has not been updated. no surf cats anymore. i'm pretty sure sharkathon is first week of oct. how does second week end of sept sound. i figure drive down the island early fri and head back sun. two nights on the sand is about my limit.....

yeah we could do oct either month is good as far as fishing, but we do get some chitty weather starting in oct sometimes and higher than normal tides.

Wife and son's birthday that week. Don't know if she would be up for getting sand everywhere. He wouldn't mind, as long as he gets a birthday party at some point. But you decide what is best, and I'll see if things line up. We better catch something besides hardheads and whiting, though whiting is pretty decent for ceviche, specks are much better

Just talked to my buddy Geoff Austin, he runs the Ruddy's BBQ redfish pro series tournaments and a couple others. He told me they are putting on a surf fishing tournament first week of august. Main venue the american bank center downtown will include a bad ass dinner and a Roger Creager concert. He said if we want we can have VIP tags. Captain meeting, dinner on thursday and fish fri/sat., awards prize money on sunday. he's going to get me all the details on mon. just an idea i'd thought i'd run by whoever decides to come down.

Roger, I gotta a Penn Battle 6000, but also looking at a conventional for some bigger/further fish. Will a 113H 4/0 work or should I look for a 6/0 instead as a more viable option. Not trying to win any world records on longest fights, or biggest fish on smallest reel. Just keeping it cheap and functional. Planning on spooling with 40-50lb Big Game or ANDE and maybe braid? 12/0 circles.
